It is hard not to have the hots for Cher, especially as she looks so fantastic for a woman of her vintage. Her looks have obviously been a huge selling point in her career, but this album serves as a reminder that she has a few decent songs under her belt too.
Who is she:
Was married to the late Sonny Bono, has carved a successful solo career in music and a successful film career.
On this album:
'Oh No Not My Baby' seems to hark back a sixties sound as Cher gets her voice off on a roll with some deep resonating tones. It is a sorrowful song, but the melody is light enough for it to be endearing. This reminds me of The Ronettes or Darlene Love.
Head for the wonderful 'Save Up All Your Tears' as Cher declares that you might need them so day. A mid-tempo track with gusto. She seems to empower the chorus with such vigour that the track lifts at every turn, a strong powerful track.
I also rate the joyous 'Shoop Shoop Song.' Short, sharp and sweet and conjuring up images of the 'Mermaids' movie, another hark back to a sixties sound here. Better still is 'If I Could Turn Back Time' which is a macho power ballad, think of Heart and Roxette and you're on the right track. A butch determined chorus and a real sense of despair in her vocals.
My final recommendation is the upbeat fun of 'Gypsies, Tramps And Thieves' which is the kind of track you could have a good old knees up to with some mates. Cher seems to be having a whale of a time!
16 tracks, a stunning cover of Cher wearing not much and loads of memories. A woman with a big voice and big...er a woman with a big voice, yes.
There is no stopping this super artist - CHER. She has got to one of the world's greatest artists of all times. Long before she became known for her singing talents she starred in a television show with her late husband Sonny Bono. It was from here the world discovered what talents this woman had. Today she is better known for her singing than anything else - but don't forget she can act - in filsm such as Moonstuck, Mermaids to mention two. Having grown up with listen to mum humming her songs - I have been a CHEr fan for mnay years now. Whenever she released her greatest hits album in 1999 - i just had to buy it. And was not disappointed in what i had purchased - this album has some of her most up to date tracks as well as some of her best loved tracks - super. The album has the right balance - and the tracks are complied in a great manner. The track list is as follows : 1. BELIEVE 2. THE SHOOP SHOP SONG ( IT'S IN HIS KISS) 3. IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME 4. HEART OF STONE 5. LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING 6. LOVE HURTS 7. JUST LIKE JESSIE JAMES 8. I FOUND SOMEONE 9. ONE BY ONE 10. STRONG ENOUGH 11. ALL OF NOTHING 12. WALKING IN MEMPHIS 13. LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE 14. ALL I REALLY WANT TO DO 15. BANG BANG 16. GYPSIES, TRAMPS AND THIEVES 17. THE BEST GOES ON 18. I GOT YOU BABE 19. DOV'E L'AMORE as you can see this album includes many of CHER's all time greats. This is certainly one album i recommend you all should have in your collection.
~ Her career has spanned more than 30 years, in which time her body & face have spanned many pages of many magazines! Cher’s been through many personal & professional problems, good times & bad times, but has always come out fighting. She’s one very talented & very sexy lady with a beautiful voice & body to match! ~ Cher hasn’t been in that many films, but the ones that she has been in have proven her acting ability & won her numerous awards & nominations. She can sing, dance & act. She’s co-starred in films such as, Moonstruck, Mermaids, Suspect, Mask, The Witches of Eastwick & Silkwood. She’s acted with big names such as, Bob Hoskins, Winona Ryder, Michelle Pfeiffer, Denis Quaid & the unforgettable Jack Nicholson. In short ... she can really act! ~ This CD features her best-loved songs throughout most of her career, 1965 to 1992. The featured songs have all sold millions of copies, but haven’t all reached the Number 1 spot in the UK or US charts, but are truly great songs all the same. Cher’s track record speaks for itself & she’s got many millions of devoted fans. Anything that she does turns to gold & maybe that’s partly due to the fact that she puts her soul into everything that she does! ~ Here’s the songs that feature on the CD, which is one of my favourites, alongside the likes of, Meatloaf, The Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, Chris De Burg, Queen, Hot Chocolate & others. I like a lot of artists & various types of music, but Cher’s music is one that I can listen to regardless of my mood. Oh no, not my baby Whenever you’re near Many rivers to cross Love & understanding Save up all your tears The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in his kiss) If I could turn back time Just like Jesse James Heart of stone I found someone We all sleep alone Bang Bang Dead ringer for love (with Meatloaf) Dark lady Gypsys,
tramps & thieves I got you babe These songs speak volumes for the career of Cher & the CD is really a tribute to her & her career. Anyway, enough of my waffling on. You should be able to pick this CD up for less than a tenner & can get it from virtually any shop that sells music. It’s well worth buying & is well worth listening to if you get the chance!
It wouldn’t be nice to say that Cher has been around for centuries but she has! Before my time she had a television career with her late husband Sony, since then she’s been in the public eye for being a ‘man’s lady’ to complaining that men don’t ask her out anymore. Not only can she act but she can sing! Most actors can’t sing and most singers can’t act – but she can do both with style! I’ve always liked Cher that’s why I just had to get her greatest hits, yes… she finally has one! Her not-so-recent Believe was absolutely brilliant, all of the songs are brilliant! However, her oldies such as Heart of Stone, I found someone, Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves and not forgetting I got you Babe are absolutely brilliant. You must get this one!!!
Now!! Listen!! You may have come here by accident and are just on your way out of here, but i reckon you should stick around a little longer. It isn't everyday that you can say that you have listen to the tales of a wise man, but being that very wise man means that i have to share what i know. So lets get on with it. This album is nothing new in terms of musical achievement. If you've heard the likes of "I Got You Babe" and "It's In His Kiss" once, then you've heard them a thousand times but how often do you get to hear them all, one after another, everlasting like the box office hit "Titanic". Except unlike "Titanic" there is no sinking ship on this CD nor anything worthy of jumping overboard. I simply say this.... BUY THIS ALBUM IF IT KILLS YOU, AFTERALL YOU'LL NEED SOMETHING GOOD TO LISTEN TO IN HEAVEN!!!!!! So go on get a multitude of tunes all in one go and enjoy the Cher experience. Cheers......Nat
This CD contains 19 of Chers hits, from 1965 (I Got You Babe), All I Really Want to do) up to Believe from 1998. its structured to have the most modern hits first, which are generally up beat and powerful. By contrast the later tracks, as they were produced earlier, without the modern mix wizardry are quite a musical contrast, and it really sounds like 2 CDS. Thats not to say they are not as good as the more recent hits, just that they sound dated. As a history of one womans singing though, the CD is well worth buying, and its a good CD to sing to , loud, in the car!
