Advantages: Every song is a hit! 16 Amazing songs!
Disadvantages: Some fans will always complain that their favourite is missing.
For me, the Foo Fighters are the greatest band in recent history and even though they have now released this Greatest Hits album, they are still going from strength to strength.
First of all, here a few Foo Facts for you...
Foo Fighters were formed in 1995 by ex Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl who became the Guitarist & Singer, & since their formation they have grown to be one of the biggest Rock bands of all time.
In their 14 years of existence they have released 6 studio albums, 1 live album & this Greatest Hits album.
The band has won 6 Grammy Awards, 2 Brit Awards & an MTV VMA.
Even though I have every Foo Fighters song on my itunes, I have still bought this album. I didn't buy it just for the 2 new tracks and the acoustic version of Everlong, I bought it because every single track is amazing! They really have picked the best of the best tracks for the collection.
The track listing is as follows....
1, All My Life
2, Best Of You
3, Everlong
4, The Pretender
5, My Hero
6, Learn To Fly
7, Times Like These
8, Monkeywrench
9, Big Me
10, Breakout
11, Long Road To Ruin
12, This Is A Call
13, Skin And Bones
14, Wheels
15, Word Forward
16, Everlong (Acoustic)
After 6 studio albums there are obviously a lot of tracks to choose from and some great songs did not make it on to the album. I personally would have liked to see DOA, Let It Die & Stacked Actors on there but then again, other fans would have liked other songs to be included.
Dave Grohl seems to be able to craft brilliant, catchy, rock anthems that everyone in a whole stadium can sing along to. The same songs can also be enjoyed anywhere else. On your own, at a party, anywhere is suitable for the Foo Fighters!
This Greatest Hits albums mixes all the different styles of the Foo Fighters, from the fast and loud songs like All My Life, Monkeywrench & Best of You... to the softer, sing-a-long songs such as Learn To Fly, My Hero & Times Like These. There really is something on here for everyone.
The 2 new tracks, Wheels & Word Forward seem to be another different direction for the Foo Fighters and they seem to be a bit more commercial than some of their other material. They are still great songs and still the same old catchy Foos. The Acoustic version of Everlong at the end of the album is amazing. It really takes me back to when I saw Foo Fighters live at Manchester City Stadium, and Dave stopped down the runway during Everlong and the atmosphere was electric. Good times!
I picked up my copy at HMV for 7.99 and at that price it really is worth every penny! No doubt it will get even cheaper over the coming months.
Some fans will always complain about the track listing but as it was created by the band themselves, I think they have mixed up the different song styles very well. If you have all the albums already and don't want to fork out for this Greatest Hits CD then don't. I have all the songs already but this CD is great to have as I can take it with me to parties and I know every song will be a hit. Instead of taking 3 or 4 CDs and skipping tracks all the time which is very annoying!
If you are not sure about Foo Fighters but you'd like to give them a chance to tickle your musical taste buds, then this is definitely the album to start you Foo affair with! There is no better place to start. Give it a try, I promise you'll love 'em!
10/10

Summary: This CD is the perfect introduction to the Foo Fighters!

- 10/11/09 Best of albums are never as good as the die hard fans want them to be, there is always something missing. I've never been a big Foo fan (though they are fun live), but I might give this one a try. |
