... well as 'The last of the famous international playboys' and the more recent impressive moments of 'Irish Blood, English Heart' and 'You have killed me'. I think Morrissey is a genius and anyone who doesn't agree I probably sublimingly frown upon. However, from listening to this collection it begs the question who picks the tracklisting? I know Moz can be stubborn but if he has indeed picked this selection why on earth is the live cover of 'redondo beach' on there? Thats where this album falls back. I think with all...more

Crowned Review Greatest Hits - Morrissey: Everyday Is Like Sunday (1625 words)
by - written on 17/03/08 (Very useful, 213 readings)
Rating:

Morrissey's latest compilation, in this case a Greatest Hits package, includes 15 songs taken mostly from his recent albums You Are The Quarry and Ringleader Of The Tormentors. I should stress that this is a collection of his better selling singles rather than a singles collection and explains the glut of recent material. Believe it or not, Morrissey - who was almost forgotten by the late nineties and generally regarded as a bit of a 'cult' artist - has enjoyed great success over the last three or four years with top ten singles and a couple of good albums. He usually seems to emerge again just when everyone has written him off. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Great artist, not great choices (825 words)
by - written on 21/09/09 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:

Morrissey for those who dont know, was lead singer in the greatest band to ever come out of the 80's, The Smiths. A short and sweet career as a band frontman turned into a long spell as a solo artist despite numerous cat calls to reform. Morrissey is in my opinion, probably the greatest to ever pen such classic, personal lyrics. I have seen him live so many times yet rather than go all over the top and give him five stars just for being amazing to me I am gonna hold back and give what my head, not my heart tells me. Opening with 'First of the Gang to Die' , arguably his best song in recent times is a Morrissey classic that deserved to reach the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Greatest Hits - Morrissey: All hail the king of gloom (321 words)
by - written on 29/01/09 (Very useful, 29 readings)
Rating:

The most miserable man in music, Steven Morrissey. You can understand growing up in the grim north, he might have many miserable moments to lament about. This is a collection of his finest. Who is he: Lead singer of legendary group The Smiths and a much respected solo artist in his own right. His lyrics are often witty and controversial and his music intelligent and challenging. On this album: One of my favourites is the opener 'First Of The Gang To Die', finding Morrissey in a surprising upbeat mood, despite the biting lyrics, as he sings of Hector and having bullets in your gullet. This track was taken from the 'You Are The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Routine Morrissey compilation. (304 words)
by - written on 10/08/08 (Very useful, 32 readings)
Rating:

Calling this latest Morrissey compilation his Greatest Hits is a but misleading because it's basically a collection of singles from his last two albums along with four older hits and two new songs. In other words the dedicated Morrissey fan is being ripped off and the newer fans are being deprived of some of his best ever songs including You're The One For Me Fatty and We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful. I'm not saying that the songs on Greatest Hits are below par, far from it. It's just that I would advise any new Morrissey fan to buy Suedehead - The Best Of Morrissey because 1/ You can buy it reasonably cheap, and 2/ It contains most of his best ...  Read the complete review
