... multiple levels. Here, the music has the sole purpose of bringing you cheap thrills, quickly and surely. Of course, that's not to say it isn't credible, which it most definitely is. Nick could record an entire record of him burping and farting and it'd probably still end up entirely melodic (with a gentle leaning toward new age blues). Of course, you cannot get through talking about this record without mentioning No Pussy Blues, so I may as well mention it now. Look, it is big, it is stupid and it is silly, but hell...more

Premium Review Nick Cave goes all rock and roll again (156 words)
by - written on 16/08/08 (Very useful, 15 readings)

Grinderman is really the name for the latest Nick Cave project, yet is a far throw away from what you usually expect from Nick Cave. Nick Cave's records recently have been very spiritual and poetic, Grinderman is the opposite, it is immature, groovy, sacrilegious. hip hop, rocking The music uses feedback and Hammond organs to excess, as well as little riffs that make no sense in a Captain Beefheart style. It sounds like rock and roll resurrected. But an alien kind of rock and roll - like none you have ever heard before The lyrics are genius, especially on Go Tell The Women We're Leaving and No Pussy Blues. Is this Nick Cave's ...  Read the complete review

by - written on 27/06/08 (Very useful, 69 readings)
Rating:

Grinderman with their self-titled album Grinderman was a Nick Cave side-project before his latest album Dig Lazarus Dig, Grinderman has been described as "old men ageing disgracefully" and that's exactly what it is, it sounds like old gits obsessed with girls but it doesn't really try to be anything different. The album came about when Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds were tired following extensive and perhaps excessive touring of their 13 album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. Nick Cave started to write some songs on guitar, Nick Cave rarely uses guitar and it therefore brings a very raw flavour to the band, somewhat different to any of The Bad Seeds albums ...  Read the complete review

Any man who slags off Courtney Love and Hanson is okay by my standards Where's the follow-up???

The tracks are mostly brilliant Valentine is a bit weak

So many greats songs to hear No Bonus tracks

For Opeth fans... ...but it's Opeth Lite.

Atmospheric and ambitious. Styles clash at times.
