'Guerrilla' is a definate contender for best album of the 90's. The Super Furry Animals have always been a band that have never been afraid to experiment or subvert musical convention, and on 'Guerilla' they take thier warped musical manifesto to the hilt. The album is so diverse and the range of sounds so extreme that it is impossible to place this album in any definate musical style. We have tracks that sound like a cross between punk rock and 60's surf guitar with numbers such as 'Do or Die' and 'The Teacher'. Then there are tracks that drift into sunny kettle drum solo's followed by warped tecno beats that would make even ... Read the complete review

From the moment I first heard 'northern lites' I knew that this SFA album was going to be something out of the ordinary. With its fusion of guitars and an almost latino beat, the first single off the album is a radical movement away from the band's previous sound. The whole album, in fact, is somewhat off the wall, the nearest thing the nineties has seen to a concept album. The thing about concept albums is that, with a few exceptions, they always end up as curiosities, rather then classic albums. It seems that the band concerned want to create something that is very difficult to listen to. With this album, SFA achieve just this, ... Read the complete review

Super Furrys yet again produce yet another amazing album to add to their growing list. Like most band there is always one finished article and in my opinion this is the one. Radio friendly songs that also impress the die hard fans is almost impossible to achieve but with "Do or Die" blasting into your system then just as quickly leaving it you know this is something special. "The turning Tide" gives a small reminder that the mellow side hasnt escaped attention before the famous anthem of "Northern Lites" engulfs you and draws you into the rest of the album. "NightVision" awakens the senses with its fast carving vocals ... Read the complete review

Don't get me wrong I think the furries are one of the greatest bands of all time, but I found this album patchy, to say the least. The first track did not put me int he right frame of mind - if anything it annoyed me. The real highlights of the album are Northern Lights and Turning Tide. On another note "Don't go chewing in bed, you might wake up with it stuck in your hair", is one of the great song lyrics of all time (In fact the top 5 are all probably by SFA). i just think the CD is missing something, and it has 1 or 2 dodgy tracks in my opinion as well. Please don't get me wrong I do like the Furries, ... Read the complete review

The first 2 Super Furry Animals albums - `Fuzzy Logic` and `Radiator` - were both excellent, inventive and refreshing. `Guerilla` follows this trend, a really uplifting and intriguing CD from one of the most experimental bands around at the moment. The single `Northern Lites` is one of the best summer tunes ever written, and the rest of the album lives up to this. Songs like `Where I Lay My Phone` are simply not like anything else around at the moment, and it's so refreshing to hear compared to the tired 60s copying bands like Ocean Colour Scene etc. The lyrics are not exactly hugely deep, but they are fun and off-beat - Gryff Rhys really must be on ... A couple of decent tracks
For the most part the album is deeply disappointing
Dream Days At The Hotel Existence - Powderfinger
Catchy mainstream pop-rock
The odd pretentious lyrics or dreary moment, bit too middle of the road for some
Universal Migrator, Pt. 1: The Dream Sequencer - Ayreon
Unique Ayreon album, with a strong atmosphere and great vocals.
Lacks the energy and complexity of other releases, and may be too dull for some.
Unbreakable - Backstreet Boys
Atmospheric, good vocal harmony (yay !), some tracks co - written by the guys, plenty of tracks
A bit cheesy, takes a few listens to really 'get into' it (but its great after that!)
