Advantages: Beautiful music

Disadvantages: bit of a "green" composer, liked to recycle

Many people mistakenly believe that Handel wrote a great many works. They wouldn't be completely wrong in assuming this, he did write a large a number, but not as many as some might think.

Take for example his Recorder Sonata in F major. I played it for a music competition a few years ago. Last year I entered another competition and played th Concerto in F major, apart from a few additions here and there, this was exactly the same piece I had played several years earlier under a different name. I also happen to know that the Organ Concerto in F major is made up chiefly of the same music, again one or two slight alterations.

This is very common for Handel, he would probably have fitted in very well into todays soceity because he was very "green" and recycled a lot of his music. Just think about it when you're next listening to Handel, you might hear pieces that you thought were from a different work.

Nevertheless, he's still a great composer and well worth listening to.
