Rating:
The sticker on the front of this CD states The definitive collection , so, let s see. First a little background: Public Enemy have been going over 20 years now....I cannot thing of another rap group that have, certainly not as hardcore as PE. They do not compromise, their lyrics are always hard hitting, the backing music is always funky, edgy and often sampled, by them, and in turn their music is sampled. They have influenced many other rappers, and they remain original, they are unapologetic in their songs and embody, for me, the early days of rap, and yet move woith the times. Great website by the way: http://www.publicenemy.com/ It may seem strange a white, ...

Fear Of A Black Planet - Public Enemy
by gchessun - written on 21/11/00 (Somewhat useful, 15 readings)
Rating:
1990 album from Public Enemy that was one of their most successful. The album includes absolutely classic singles such as 911 is a Joke, and Fight the Power. The album is dated these days and the general sound is the rap style of the earlys 90's late 80's. The album does have some musical quality, something that ...

Fear Of A Black Planet - Public Enemy
by Nickodemus - written on 09/06/00 (Somewhat useful, 26 readings)
Rating:
One of the essential non gangsta rap albums of the early nineties. A thought provoking attack on the state of america at that time, which has evidently changed little. Nobody is safe from PE from radio stations to the police , to hollywood, to the welfare state. The album will appeal to all hip hop fans, with it's positive attitude "If we ...

You Had It Coming - Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck continuing to evolve.
What a poorly chosen direction.
Situation Dangerous - Bozzio Levin Stevens
Past Times With Good Company - Blackmore's Night
More diverse than the studio albums, with less filler.
Songs extended for far too long, and Deep Purple fans perhaps leave even more annoyed than before.
Opel - Syd Barrett
Probably the most comprehensive collection of rare material.
Still a lot of overlap in the form of alternate takes, which tend to be inferior.
The Physics Of Fire - Becoming the Archetype
Doesn't descend into screaming metalcore.
Progressive elements are now pretty dull, and most songs sound exactly the same.
Jeff - Jeff Beck
Techno rhythms have been toned down.
Hip hop and electronic elements still lead the way, and are rubbish.
Darwin - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Perfects the chamber prog style, and calms down some of the structural insanity.
Still only for hardcore prog fans.
Barrett - Syd Barrett
More stereotypical Barrett, stabilised by other musicians.
Less individual as a result.
Il Vuoto - Franco Battiao
Classical elements incorporated nicely.
Contrasting pop and electro elements in certain songs.
