Whatever Happened To Benny Santini - Chris Rea

Premium Review Great debut album (848 words)
by ScottishWestie - written on 11/08/09 (Very useful, 63 readings)
Rating:

B. McCoy, Chris got a contract with Magnet records & McCoy became his manager. Magnet records were owned by Michael Levy (a.k.a. Lord Levy) who was impressed enough with Chris Rea to release his first single in 1974 called So much love . The single didn t get much radio play & consequently failed to make any impression on the charts. However, that early set back didn t stop Chris Rea from writing fresh material & in 1977 he had completed a number of songs for a debut album. Michael Levy felt that the songs were good but not great so he decided to approach Gus Dudgeon to see if he would produce the songs for the debut album. Dudgeon was famous for producing ...

God's Great Banana Skin - Chris Rea

Premium Review Keeping Standards High As Ever (604 words)
by opinions4u - written on 20/04/03 (Very useful, 336 readings)
Rating:

I talk football, current affairs or review an album. I find the latter quite a difficult art, and really admire those who do it well. Chris Rea finished the eighties and started the nineties on a high. The Road To Hell and Auberge were exceptional albums with exceptional sales figures. While not quite as successful commercially, God?s Great Banana Skin shared the same qualities as these two predecessors. If you have never head any Chris Rea material, as well as the shame that should be heaped on to you, I strongly recommend picking up one of his Best Of albums and then moving on to some of this exceptional material. It is a fabulous album for driving to. ...

nearest subcontinent that I don't occupy, but no matter ? we have serious music to discuss! - Sit back and relax So, Chris Rea . What do you think of when you hear the name? Well, the majority of people will tell you he's a rocker who's quite handy with a guitar and he did 'Road To Hell'. Which is of course all true, but there's a lot more to Mr Rea than first meets the eye. And this is the album which proves it. As far as I know, 'King Of The Beach' is somewhat of a departure for Chris ? away from the standard guitar rock we know him for, and towards a much more chilled and sophisticated sound. The album is laid back right from ...
