Advantages: LITTLE BY LITTLE
Disadvantages: TOO CLEVER WITH LYRICS
HEATHEN CHEMISTRY is the title of indie rock, Manchester band Oasis' album.
The album consists of 11 tracks which I will review.
The opening track THE HINDU TIMES is an energetic number to start procedings. The guitar kicks into life and brings great support to the vocals.
FORCE OF NATURE is another fas paced song with some superb lyrics that tell a good story. The guitar once more excels.
HUNG IN A BAD PLACE is a slower song that is one that gets better after hearing it a few times.
STOP CRYING YOUR HEART OUT is a typical Oasis' song that avoids going sentimental in the lyrics and concentrates on getting over lost love.
SONGBIRD is a real mellow song that has some gentle lyrics and is sung with real smoothness.
LITTLE BY LITTLE is my favourite song on the album as it is a slower paced song though the guitar gicves it some enrgy when it gets to the chorus. Noel's vocals are superb as are the lyrics.
A QUICK PEEP and IN MY MIND are two solid singles that add nothing much to the album, but aren't awful.
SHE IS LOVE i wasn't so keen on as it is a bit too sentimental for Oasis and the lyrics are a bit mushy.
BORN ON A DIFFERENT CLOUD tries to be too clever with the lyrics though the support of the instruments helps the song as it comes to life.
The album concludes with BETTER MAN which is sung with real passion and builds to a really strong chorus which you can sing along with.
Overall, this is a solid, if unspectacular album by the band. There aren't many classics and most of the songs are good, though not great. I thought the band tried too hard with their lyrics in this album though the vocals and instruments were consistent as ever.
Avaliable from AMAZON at £10.29 this is not Oasis' best, but still okay.
Summary: OASIS NOT AT THEIR BEST
