It is ironic that one the most magnificent symphonic scores Elmer Bernstein ever wrote was done for a film named Heavy Metal. Bernstein, of course, was already a well established name in the film scoring industry with scores like The Magnificent Seven, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Escape under his belt, but the 1980s were a very fruitful period for Bernstein when it came to large scale symphonic fantasy and sci-fi efforts that started popping up in the beginning of 1980.
