Here, Weller is really treading water, but there are so many foot-stomping rock songs on the album, it's hard to feel short-changed. 'Heavy Soul' sounds like it is simply a continuation of 'Stanley Road' and 'Wild Wood', and the slow songs 'Friday Street, 'As you lean into the light' and 'I should have been there to inspire you' are very very boring, and have no pace whatever. I don't think that popstars, even those in their forties, should be allowed to write songs as ponderous as 'I should have been there to inspire you', the title is enough to send you to sleep.
