Shane Macgowan, leas singer and usually songwriter of the pogues, said this was "a real dog of an album" in his (semi)autobiogrpahy. i regret that i must actively disagree with him. Forgive me for suggesting that at least some of Shane's dislike of this album is due to the high creative input of other band members. it is true that in this, the 5th, as well as in the 4th pogues album, the democratic spirit had emerged and with that, their trademarked brand of irish punk-rock folk had become watered down with rock n roll. but an album this great can not be written off just because it is not typical of their work. it still contains some truly fantastic songs ...
