I do apologise that this review has probably come a bit late for Christmas 2008 (Dooyoo took quite a while in processing my suggestion!) but since we have not yet arrived at 12th Night I thought I might still be justified in writing about this Christmas CD. You might just want to bear it in mind for Christmas 2009 anyway!
In the run up to Christmas we were looking for a festive CD that my two daughters would enjoy and recognise the songs when we saw this one in Tesco for only £4. My dughters were absolutely entranced when as soon as we picked it up to look at, the lights on Santa's sleigh started flashing and we were listening to a tinny musical rendition of 'Jingle Bells' right in the middle of Tesco! After tht we just had to buy it. I do have to say though that it does become a bit annoying after a while especially as neither daughter can walk past the CD cover without pressing the button that causes all of this to hppen. It's definitely going to be hidden away soon until next Christmas!
On to the CD itself then and it describes itself as hving 20 festive favourites for kids. I would have to agree with this description because it does seem to contain many favourites that children know and love, and they are certainly Christmas songs that my daughters enjoy singing along and dancing to.
None of the tracks are recorded by anyone famous but this does not matter at all - my girls wouldn't know the difference anyway. There is a mixture of different kinds of songs though. There are some favourite carols such as Away in a Manger, Silent Night and Little Donkey. The girls had been learning some of these at their school and nursery so these were enjoyable reinforcements of the songs they would be singing in their concerts.
There are also some funny tracks like When Santa got stuck up the Chimney - most children will know some actions to this - and I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus. The girls found this one most amusing for some reason.
Then there are some great traditional singalong favourites that we have all enjoyed joining in with. Who can resist a rendition of Jingle Bells or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer?
Overall, this ws a great CD to buy and has provided a lot of enjoyment in our house as well as providing us with some festive cheer. We bought ours in Tesco but I have noticed it on Amazon as well for £6.79 which is quite expensive compared to our £4 brgain.
Unfortunately, it will soon be consigned to that dark cupboard where all things Christmassy live for most of the year. However, once December arrives again I'm sure it will be heard at top volume in our house again!
