Advantages: Brilliant album

Disadvantages: A bit depressing

If you've never listened to a Bowie album before, I wouldn't start with this one. This isn't to say that it isn't brilliant, but it takes a bit of working up to. However, if you've done Ziggy Stardust and Plastic Soul and come up smiling then this is your next purchase.
"Heroes", as well as being the best known track, is also the most commercial (and that's saying a lot). This album picks up where "Low" left off, but contains a great deal more of the atmoshpere and paranoia of Bowie's Berlin years. Although this isn't a personal album by any means, it contains enough raw emotion to give a fair idea of what was going on in his head at the time. Stand out tracks are Joe The Lion (a typical burst of post-Ziggy lunacy), Sense of Doubt and Neukoln.
Be prepared- this album could really depress you if you're that way inclined, but if you're ready for it, "Heroes" is one of the greatest Bowie albums and one of the best of the 70s.
