Are You Are Missing Winner - The Fall
by otalgia - written on 08/11/08 (Very useful, 164 readings)
Rating:
are as ambiguous as ever - "Pressure under and over, Pressure over the skips, Over price adverts, Broken down laptops" The obligatory cover version is up next and The Fall s rendition of R Dean Taylor s "Gotta see Jane" raises a smile as it sounds almost civilized and polite when compared to the preceding track. Mark gives the song a good vocal stab but the background music sadly sounds reedy and pale by comparison. The album turns totally bizarre with the next song that starts off with a mix that sounds like it s been recorded in a bathroom. Just when you are about to skip the track a studio recording of the track starts up and is equally as odd. ...
Live At The Witch Trials - The Fall
by otalgia - written on 22/09/08 (Very useful, 100 readings)
Rating:
of this song Crap Rap 2 would imply that there is a Crap Rap 1, but I don t know where that can be found! The intro is Mark introducing The Fall in his own outspoken Northern style - "We are Northern crap that talks back"! The intro is quickly over and a rather sloppy guitar tune breaks into a shouting punk chorus. Rebellious Jukebox - The lyrics start "I m searching for the now, I m looking for the real thing yeah" which was quite appropriate at the time of release with the expansion of the DIY ethic and every man and his dog releasing their own records and fanzines. The song makes the point that the band lurked on the outskirts of commercial punk ...

Monday Morning Apocalypse - Evergrey
More accessible to newcomers.
Lacks the band's characteristic qualities.
In Search Of Truth - Evergrey
Creative and compelling prog-power metal.
One too many dull ballads.
Monumension - Enslaved
Great progressive metal for those with more extreme tastes.
Too much reliance on these new elements, which aren't as developed as the old.
Mardraum - Beyond The Within - Enslaved
Original and distinctive progressive black metal.
Mechanical production sound is grating.
Isa - Enslaved
Holds your interest, is very cool
may be slightly repetitive for some.
Blodhemn - Enslaved
Better production, more great black metal songs.
Less creative.
Frost - Enslaved
Hugely atmospheric, varied, very intense
A little cheesy/disjointed in places
Ensiferum - Ensiferum
The most accessible Viking metal, with memorable songs.
Tends towards similarity.
Heathenreel - Elvenking
Great example of folk power metal.
Elements clash to some extent.
No World Order - Gamma Ray
Unadulterated heavy metal for genre fans.
Mix Judas Priest with Helloween, and dilute.
