Advantages: Awesome songs, Singalong ability
Disadvantages: none
Right then, picture this: musical families. Osmands, Bros, the Nolans. Its a pretty grim image, right? Now if i was to tell you that 'A' comprised of three brothers, it may put you off given the examples I've given. Think again. This band rule! A are a 5 piece, London based band who have been around for years, but with very little commercial success. Their first album, the rather strangely titled 'How Ace Are Buildings', didn't spawn a single song that entered the top 75. Their second long player 'Monkey Kong', did a bit better, but again - no real success came their way. Their third studio album 'Hi Fi Serious' is simply awesome. You may have heard of them recently, with the release of 'Nothing', which entered the charts at no.9. Personally, I'm not too impressed by this song, and would say it's possibly one of the weaker tracks on the album. The album has evolved from their previous work, in that it has moved slightly from thrashy punk, to more melodic punk. Gone are the loops and 'Speak and Spell' samples. In come glorious harmonies and punky riffs. The band consist of Jason Perry - Vocals Adam Perry - drums Giles Perry - Keyboards/sampling etc Mark Chapman - Guitar Dan.P.Carter - Bass Jason has quite a curious voice. It's a bit Sting - but not in a bad way. Backing vocals from Dan and Giles help create the A sound, which is pretty Hi Fi Serious Nothing It sound a bit too nu-metal to me. Still a pretty catchy song, and it propelled them into the top 10. Something's Going On A great catchy song. A great riff, and some lush melodies. Superb stuff 6 O'Clock on the Tube Maybe not the one of the best songs, but still of high calibre. Punky sounds Going Down Slightly slower, but an awesome song. More harmonies and some great lyrics. Took It Away
r> Possibly my favourite, although its hard to say on such a good album. The lyrics have a go at all the poor boy/girl bands about at the moment. Great sounds and vocals. Starbucks I think this will be the second single taken from this album. Again has the potential of doing well in the charts. Is catchy, and punky. Good stuff Palm Springs A more acousticy song. Fairly laid back, with some slight Beach Boys harmonies. Shut Yer Face In your face rock. This is another catchy song which is pretty cool. Pacific Ocean Blue Not a bad song at all. Some great guitar playing and more harmonies than you can throw with a stick. The Distance. Slightly more punky than most. This song is run throughout with some great guitar work form Mark. More harmonies WDYCAI (Why Dont You Cry About It) Some more great (yes you've guessed it) harmonies. Some awesome guitar playing. Good song Hi Fi Serious A great song to end the album. The chorus is slower than the verses. A great punky song. Overall I think this album would appeal to loads of people. If you like Sum 41, Blink 182, or even The Police when they were younger you'll love this band. If there's one album you have to buy this year - make it this one - you won't be disappointed!
