Advantages: Jack Black, Bob Dylan, The Jam, The Velvet Underground, Aretha Franklin, The Beta Band.........and the rest!

Disadvantages: I've never like Barry White myself, but you can't please all of the people all of the time

I have to admit, I don't know much about music in general, but you have to realise when a movie's got a great soundtrack if the audience is reluctant to leave the theatre until the credits have stopped rolling. The CD does not fail to live up to the high expectation set by the movie. After all, a movie set in a record shop could hardly place S Club 7 or A-ha in their top 15 songs to put on a soundtrack album. Amongst old classics like The Velvet Underground (from whom we get 2 songs, which seems like a bit of a cop out to be fair) and The Kinks comfortably sits The Beta Band ("I am now going to sell 5 copies of the Beta Band's 3 EPs) and Stereolab. Particular favourites include Elvis Costello with "Shipbuilding", Bob Dylan ("Most Of The Time"), and Stevie Wonder, who completes the CD as he so effectively rounds off the movie itself. This CD really is a treat, with songs you know and love resting happily along songs you should, but don't.

And if that doesn't tempt you - how about Jack Black's own surprisingly excellent version of the Marvin Gaye classic "Let's Get It On". Definitely worth the album price alone.
