Advantages: Mostly great songs
Disadvantages: A couple of skipworthy tracks
The High School Musical 3 soundtrack was released in 2008 to accompany the Disney film of the same name.
I love the High School Musical films. I am a grown-up, but have a childish streak that I like to indulge. The films are never going to set the world alight, and aren't out to win any awards for acting or storylines. But they are fun, and the music is cheesy enough to get everyone up and dancing.
The third instalment of the series is the best film, and indeed, the best soundtrack. It follows the same trustworthy way, there is a wistful song for Gabriella to sing when it seems that she won't end up with Troy, the basketball-playing boy of her dreams ('Walk Away'), an angry Troy song ('Scream), and the traditional romantic ballad ('Right Here, Right Now'). No romantic ballad can ever match up to 'Breaking Free' from the first film, but 'Right Here, Right Now' (not to be confused with the Fatboy Slim song of the same name) gives it a jolly good go.
My favourite tracks on this soundtrack are 'Can I Have This Dance' and 'Just Wanna Be With You'. There are only one or two tracks on the soundtrack that I would skip, the aforementioned 'Walk Away' being one of them. I am not a huge fan of Gabriella, and find her solos slightly boring. But as for the rest, they are a great accompaniment to the movie, and the CD is a must for any fans of the franchise.
Summary: Great accompaniment to the film
