The music still follows the standard power metal chug when running at full-pelt, which is a little disappointing but admittedly reliable, and Jonas Heidgert's vocals are emotive even if he does sound like every other power metal singer. Heidgert also plays the drums, which must make live performances something of an oddity. The style once again switches between fast and slow songs with no kind of middle ground, bu...more

Dragonland's second album is a slight improvement over their first, but still owes its entire sound (outside of the excellent keyboard work of Elias Holmlid) to the established power metal tradition. Holmlid's classical arrangements are integrated more fluidly into the music, most evident in the piano and violin of slower songs such as 'Calm Before the Storm,' and his intro and outro tracks are once again much more substantial and engaging than the usual power metal intro tracks, which are usually ones to skip. a brilliant album none

One of the best albums from possibly the most influential band of all time Some of it sounds dated

Well Balanced, Dark Not Quite Gothic Enough

Excellent experimental touches combined with solid death metal. Bass is obscured by production.

Returns to tried-and-tested ground. Fails to live up to the old standard.

Uncomplicated, evil death metal. Silly burp vocals and repetitive drums.

You Had It Coming - Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck continuing to evolve. What a poorly chosen direction.

Situation Dangerous - Bozzio Levin Stevens

Past Times With Good Company - Blackmore's Night
More diverse than the studio albums, with less filler. Songs extended for far too long, and Deep Purple fans perhaps leave even more annoyed than before.

Opel - Syd Barrett
Probably the most comprehensive collection of rare material. Still a lot of overlap in the form of alternate takes, which tend to be inferior.

The Physics Of Fire - Becoming the Archetype
Doesn't descend into screaming metalcore. Progressive elements are now pretty dull, and most songs sound exactly the same.

Jeff - Jeff Beck
Techno rhythms have been toned down. Hip hop and electronic elements still lead the way, and are rubbish.

Brainbox - Brainbox

Barrett - Syd Barrett
More stereotypical Barrett, stabilised by other musicians. Less individual as a result.

Il Vuoto - Franco Battiao
Classical elements incorporated nicely. Contrasting pop and electro elements in certain songs.
