Advantages: some people may love it
Disadvantages: change in direction and for the worse
Home from home is the fifth album from the punk band millencolin, they are a Swedish punk/ punk pop band that are known for their fast paced songs and catchy lyrics as well, however don't worry as all of their songs are sung in English and I actually thought they were an American band the first time I heard them.
The first song man or mouse, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the first time I heard it. It sound a bit cheesy and a bit to pop like for me with a bit of a cliché chorus and poorly written versus. It wasn't a song that I really enjoyed and I hoped that the rest of the album wouldn't be similar to this as I thought the band had made a step in the wrong direction.
The track kemp is another example of their change in style, it's a slower paced song with the song relying on the instruments rather than the singing that they used to rely on, I personally don't like this as much and although the song isn't bad, it just didn't do it for me.
Battery check was a track on this album that offered a little comfort to me, comfort that the old millencolin were still there somewhere, there are parts that showed the old millencolin was fighting through the new crappy oasis style they had tried taking on.
This album for me was quite simply disappointing. I feel I might be being a bit harsh giving it such a low rating as if you don't know the band then you might think its really good and if you prefer a more pop rock band then you could really like them as well, but I don't, I like my old punk band and this album for me was a total step in the wrong direction to change their style when they just didn't need to.
Summary: i prefer their old style

- 12/07/09 I have to say I've never heard of them - and given what you've said, if I do ever sample them, I won't start with this! |
