When my father was as young as I'm now, he was a great fan of the Beatles. Unfortunaly he grew up in the eastern part of Germany and could not get any tapes or LPs from his stars. How happy he would have been, just holding a copy of the White Album in his hands. Well, I was very happy, but I have my own White Album. Its from Daft Punk, not from the Beatles, but it's the same rock-spirit inside. Homework is definitly the album that maked the club-insider-tip Daft Punk to a well known and lateron famous music. No wonder why. Homework is full of fresh, new, inovative Funk. It brough a little revolution in the German club-scene. I remember nigths ... Read the complete review

Here it comes! Finally! Four years after Revolution, the new album by the French duo Thomas Bangalter / Guy-Manuel De Homem Christo is coming back with 14 brandly new titles. The first album was, in my opinion, very homogeneously assorted and self-influenced. Discovery is a bit more 'ill' assorted, not so self-influenced. Actually, there's no doubt Revolution (year released : 1997) allowed most of the French 'electronic artists' to make success with their style, for example Bob Sinclar (mainly influenced by Cerrone, a famous disco french artist now leaving in the USA, most known title : Supernature, 1974), but also ... This debut album from the fantastic French duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo is essential for any dance, electronic and/or Daft Punk fans. Most are aware of the hugely successful album Discovery by Daft Punk, but 'Homework' is just as good in quality if a little less commercial. The music in this album has a French sound- almost disco-like! The reason that Daft Punk have been so successful is that they manage to produce original, new and innovative music whilst still keeping their own 'sound'. There's always a distinctive Daft Punk feel in their songs, this undoubtedly is due to the fact that they've both written and ... Read the complete review

To put it bluntly, 'Homework' is probably one of the best dance albums ever made. The two frenchman formerly of an failed indie band called Darlin' decided to pack it in an look to the dancefloor for inspiration after they received a bad review in Melody Maker deeming them 'daft punks'. Now with a very good name on board, Thomas Bangalter and Guy de-Homen-Christo, managed to filter their influences all through the medium of dance music. And boy do they have some influences; as well as house producers such as DJ Sneak, the Chemical Brothers, Armand van Helden and Ettiene de Crecy, Daft Punk take their inspiration from Urge Overkill, Television, Brian ... This debut album from French house artists Daft Punk is essential listening for fans of dance and electronic music. The style is instantly recognisable as French: funky bass wobbles and wild synthetic screeches, creating a vaguely disco sound. The distinctive Daft Punk flavour is the marriage of these sounds to a deep house beat and powerful, solid bassline. This style is consistent throughout 'Homework' and is almost always highly successful. The toughest challenge to a dance music act is to create a sound which can both be consistently defined as belonging to that group while still allowing them enough variation within that sound to produce music that ...
