Arthur Honegger was born in 1892, in France, to Swiss parents. He lived until 1955, experiencing two world wars and being deeply affected by both of them. Honegger is best known as a member of "Les Six", a group of six French composers who grouped themselves together during the 1920s and followed the aesthetic of film-maker Jean Cocteau. They were also influenced by Erik Satie, a highly eccentric avant-garde composer who was also writing at this time in France.
