Scott Levesque's voice sounds so genuinely solemn that he is either doing it for real or can play the part to perfection. This means that depending on the occasion 'Hope and Adams' can come across as heartbreaking or alternatively the most life affirming album you've heard all year. These artists include Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control and Grandaddy. Wheat could be neatly shelved beside an uptown downbeat Lowgold but display enough potential to see them in a field of their own. Excellent voice and amazing cover versions A little bit short

Country - Alt. Country - 1996

All but one of the major hits, and a few new tracks; generous playing time A little formularised and samey in places (but doesn't everyone fall into that trap?)

R Borlax - Horse The Band
The music is great fun to listen to, excellent use of lyrics is made here. If you don't like hardcore shouted vocals then you won't like this.

Friends Of Hell - Witchfinder General
Still got a groovy sound Not a lot of excellent material

Slow Pertinacious Threnody On The Abnegation Of Succour - Arachnotaur
Effective, uncompromising drone doom. Tedious and static-laden, if you're not into that sort of thing.

Boka Vm Kaos - Arckanum
Two decent black metal songs from Shamaatae. Only two, and hopelessly obscure.

Evil Prevails - Ancient Rites
Enjoyable old-school black metal, with great vocals and some cool guitars. Mostly uninspired, with lousy production.

Ad Interitum Funebrarum - Argentum
Excellent atmospheric doom/black metal, with a Mexican spin. Fades to background music if you're not paying attention.

Chapters - Amorphis
A better collection than 'Story.' Suffers from the same drawbacks as that earlier release.

Until Eternity Ends - Edge of Sanity
Continuing to experiment with melody in the death metal genre. Four sub-standard songs.

Kino (A Star Called Sun) - Zvezdi po Imeni Solntse
Quality music, vocals, lyrics Quite depressing
