Advantages: Some real anthems!
Disadvantages: Some real stinkers
Hot Fuss was The Killer's debue album brought out back in 2004! Widely acclaimed to be a huge break through in progressive rock. The Las Vegas band have gone from strenth to strenth since. But this is where it all began. I'm a big fan of this album, so thought I would give it a review. So as usual I will go through each song telling you a little about it. So off we go.....
1. Jenny was a friend of mine - Awesome start! Soon as the music kicks in we know were in for something loud spangly and down right dirty! Glittzy rock at its best. 8/10
2. Mr Brightside - In my opinion as good as it gets. Iconic sounds and fast beats make this something special. The lyrics pulse as the guitars blaze. When you listen to the lyris there not anthing special. But even so this is a massive song! 10/10
3. Smile like you mean it - Great name for a song. Although this is quite rocky it does still have certain chilled out sounds. 'Save some face, you know you've only got one'. Some good lyrics in this song. 8/10
4. Somebody told me - Lyrically rubbish, musically brilliant. First time I heard this I though 'what rubbish', 527 listens later and I still love this song! It is just so catchy and will stick in your head all day! 10/10
5. All these things that I've done - 'I've got soul but I'm not a soldier'. Great song, nice slow start that builds up. Really good words and showing what the Killers are capeable of. 9/10
6. Andy, you're a star - Why thankyou! However this is where the album suddenly goes down hill. Nothing great about this song, is really mediocre! 5/10
7. On Top - Slight improvement but again this song lacks the drive of earlier ones! 7/10
8. Glamourous Indie Rock & Roll - Nice start with some cathcy piano, but never quite reaches the heights of the early songs again. 7/10
9. Believe me Natalie - Another weak song, the music is ok ,the words are not bad, but there is just a spark missing. 6/10
10. Midnight Show - Starts of promising much, but delivers little. Some decent beats but doesnt quite make the grade. 6/10
11. Everything will be alright - After quite a rocking ten songs they finish with something a little chilled out. Think that this was either going to be brillaint or rubbish, unfortunatley it is the latter. There is nothing to this song, I always skip it, which is a shame, think bands should finish on a high!
Overall this ablum can be split in to. The first half in amazing, inspired and passionate. The second half is ok. Simply put its worth buying for the first 5 songs!
Overall rating 8/10
Summary: Great album, shame they couldnt make everysong as good as the first 5
