It would be so very easy (and very wrong) to look at Hours, Bowie?s final album of the 1990s as a below-par, slightly bland album. Certainly the title, being similar to Heroes, probably doesn?t help Hours much as many would expect an album filled with similar invention. Hours though, is frankly not that kind of an album. I read recently that many considered Hours to be an album made by an artist enjoying their music again. I think that this is right, for there is a simplicity about Hours. In many ways this is the greatest strength of Hours as listening to Heathen, which so many considered to augur Bowie?s return to prominence, there is a sense of Bowie harking back ... Hours? This is an album that can take hours for the listener to really understand what the great man is going on about. I have glance at some other reviews on DooYoo of this album and feel that many reviewers have rather missed the point. Hours is not one of Bowies best recordings in the sense that Ziggy Stardust was, it is however his most musical, full of musical surprise's and tunes that work their way into the listeners head in a very invidious way. For fans of Bowie in his pomp and by that I mean the era of Ziggy & Diamond Dogs this is not the Bowie album you would want this is an album for a different audience, dare I say it a more mature listener ... Okay, if you read my profile you will see that I am a devout David Bowie fan. Writing about his albums could be a hobby for me cos I listen to them 24 hours a day (well almost!) So I'll try to be as unbiased as possible so those of you not so familiar with Bowie's style will perhaps get the urge to become so. 'hours...' is an excellent album. Not in the same league as Aladdin Sane or Ziggy Stardust for example but still good in it's own right. It has a completely different style compared to some of Bowie's previous albums which I guess, for me, is what appeals. You know that when you buy a Bowie album it will be different. He changes ... This is the first time in years I've been truly captivated by a new album by Bowie. Every style of album he's ever done seem to be rolled into this one masterpiece, with hints of "Hunky Dory" and "The Man Who Sold The World", among others, appearing to be at the core of the album. However, it still successfully retains an energy and feeling all of it's own. Note though that Bowie has, on a number of occasions, refuted any claim that he was attempting to reproduce the glory of the 60's and 70's on this album. I shall therefore call it a happy accident ;) The opening track and the first single to be released from the ... Read the complete review

Hours……. "Hmmm…" perhaps that would have been a better title for Bowies' new album. After the initial listen, hmmm… is what springs to mind. You are left with the feeling that, this is really good, could be really good, but some where you missed it, it got lost. It eluded you. It starts off positively, the initial track being an intriguing number which, sneaks up and subtly hooks you. The next few tracks lose that initial gentle, captivation. The album promises that Bowie predisposition for slipping inside your head but does not quite deliver. It intimates at being really good but when it has finished you are left hanging, ...
