Originally released in 1967 HOW GREAT THOU ART features some of Elvis' greatest gospel songs. Most of the material was recorded the year before, with the exception of the final song on the album, CRYING IN THE CHAPEL, which had been recorded in 1960 and released successfully as a single in 1965.

The songs featured on the album are fantastic. The title song is one of my favourite Elvis songs ever, and the other tracks are great also, including treats such as WHERE COULD I GO BUT TO THE LORD and STAND BY ME. Elvis was a deeply spiritual person and really put his all into this music. It is quite ironic that the performer who was complained about in the 1950s for corrupting America's youth was actually capable of recording such moving material.

This album was the only album for which Elvis won a Grammy Award and I have to say this was well deserved. If you only know Elvis from his rocking tunes, treat yourself to this album and have your horizons broadened.
