      A well put together collection

This album isn't a straightforward studio album. Released in 2002, the first disc is a collection of B sides, while the second consists of live performances.

The first disc is made up of songs that are generally more in keeping with the tone of Muse's first album Showbiz. It consists of several atmospheric rock songs laden with guitar and piano. With the exception of Yes Please, which is a song you can really mosh to, most of the tracks are slower. For some reason parts of the album remind me of Portishead, with the use of different musical effects and haunting vocals. Highlights for me include the catchy Shrinking Universe and bizarre Map of Your Head, but the standout track is Hyper Chondriac Music - a slower, orchestral version of Hyper Music from the Origin of Symmetry album. It sounds like another song entirely, and there has obviously been just as much attention paid to the arrangement of the track as with the 'proper' version.

Though this is an album of B sides, I certainly don't feel as though I'm listening to an inferior set of tracks. They don't have the immediately catchy quality of later Muse but they really get inside your head.

      Track Listing - Disc 1
      1. Forced In
      2. Shrinking Universe
      3. Recess
      4. Yes Please
      5. Map of Your Head
      6. Nature_1
      7. Shine
      8. Ashamed
      9. The Gallery
      10. Hyper Chondriac Music

Disc two is a live album, made up of a mixture of songs from Showbiz (Showbiz, Muscle Museum) and Origin of Symmetry (Micro Cuts, Citizen Erased, Megalomania, Darkshines, Screenager and Space Dementia) as well as three other tracks (Dead Star, In Your World, Agitated). Listening to this disc, it's easy to see that the band always had talent, though they weren't always as polished as they are now and at the time of this album I don't think they were the famed stadium live band they are now (though I gather they had a great reputation for playing live from the beginning). It's great to hear a slightly different side to them, particularly the songs from Showbiz as they are rarely performed live now.

      Track Listing - Disc 2
      1. Dead Star
      2. Micro Cuts
      3. Citizen Erased
      4. Showbiz
      5. Megalomania
      6. Darkshines
      7. Screenager
      8. Space Dementia
      9. In Your World
      10. Muscle Museum
      11. Agitated

Hardcore Muse fans would probably like Hullabaloo, but I would also recommend this album to those who liked Showbiz as the songs are quite similar in sound. It's been thoughtfully put together and with the two discs you do get value for money.
