Advantages: Wonderfully arranged pop
Disadvantages: a couple of duff tracks
Hunky DOry is probably David Bowie's most commercial album. It is more wide ranging than Ziggy Stardust and Alladin Sane.
It kicks off with changes - a piano and saxaphone led peice with a huge chorus. When you here it you know that this is Bowie at his peak,
It then leads into Oh you pretty things, another huge hit for Bowie, before slipping into 8 line poem and the grand, overwhelming Life on Mars, which many would claim is Bowie's best song.
Then it slips into a jaunty pop number called Kooks. This is lesser known, but both robbie williams and the tindersticks have done covers. I think this is my favourite song on the album.
Quicksand is Neil Finn's (of crowded house fame) favourite song of all time, i remember reading somewhere. It has a wonderful string section.
Other highlights are Queen Bitch - a velvet underground style rock song - and Andy Warhol, which i believe has been sampled by rachel stevens!
Summary: You should own this
