... Opiates always makes me feel cold. Ther really isn't a bad track on this album and whilst Mad World, Change and Pale children were succesful as singles I think any one of the ten tracks on this album could have been released. The other thing which sets this album apart from others is that both Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal sing, and they both have great voices. I find that Curt tends to sing the more upbeat songs and Roland the more heart felt songs - the emotion he manges to get into voice is stunning. Probably m...more

Premium Review The Hurting - Tears For Fears: Tear for Fears - The Hurting - One of my Top 50 albums (295 words)

Rating:

I purchased this album on vinyl many years ago ( early '80's) and it has been one of my favourite albums ever since (though I do have a lot of favourites!!). As soon as it was released on CD I purchased a copy as my vinyl original was now getting a bit scrated and not soundingas good as it had when I bought it. The album is really atmospheric and the drum beats on many of the tracks still send shivers down my spine, the eerie drum on Ideas as Opiates always makes me feel cold. Ther really isn't a bad track on this album and whilst Mad World, Change and Pale children were succesful as singles I think any one of the ten tracks on this album could ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Hurting - Tears For Fears: A favourite thing: album (and sad hairstyle) (1005 words)
by - written on 15/07/02 (Very useful, 495 readings)
Rating:

I had one of those drinking and reminiscing evenings yesterday. I rifled through my old vinyls and lost myself to a world where I was young and the most important thing in my life was music. This opinion is dedicated to Jill Murphy (details at the end) as Tears for Fears are still my favourite band, despite the passing of time, and the memories some of these songs evoke are simply the best. It may just be an album review to those reading, but it is a celebration of life to me. When I was about 8, I decided I was in love with Donny Osmond, then I moved on to John Travolta. When I was 17, I first saw Curt Smith from Tears for Fears and my whole life ...  Read the complete review

Comprehensive, Groovy, Poptastic CurtRolandOleta

Tears For Fears have never been better THAT track

It's the UK Subs - my favourite punk band Poorly compiled

Has plenty of songs that can easily be related to life in general. The odd crazy/mad lyric and song.

Plenty of classic tunes Could have added a few more from This Dirty Town

End Of The Beginning - Concerto Moon
Faithful to the studio material. Poor production and no surprises.

Who Is Rie Fu? - Rie Fu
Pop - 2008

Maiden In England (part Of Video Set) - Iron Maiden

Too Many Freaks Not Enough Stages - Pama International
Some excellent laid back Ska tunes. There are only eight tracks on the album.

Atom-Age Vampire in 308 - Balzac
Enjoyable Misfits-style punk, with the band's strongest early material. Second side is less interesting.

Against The Elements - Beyond the Embrace
Keeping the spirit of melodeath alive, with some good vocals too. Owes everything to a couple of In Flames albums.

Songs From The Archives - Crimson Moonlight
Pleasant melodic black metal. Keyboard overpowers all.

Battered Drain - Auschwitz 46
Decent imitation of nineties industrial rock. No defining characteristics.

Inhale the Evil - Hasta La Vista Social Club

X Japan - Dahlia
Loud, fast metal songs, mixed in with slow epic ballads "White Poem I" just isn't up to scratch and would have been better left out
