Powerful rock with powerful lyrics (Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park)

Advantages: Some great songs, stand out tracks

Disadvantages: A few poorer ones, to much screaming

Hybrid Theory was Linkin Park's debut way back in 2000. It was a massive smash as the band exploded onto the scene. A really loud passionate sound, with pounding drums and screaming guitars. I have always been a fan of this band, and I do like this album. So how good is it really? Well here is what I think of the music.

1. Papercut - A heavy start to the album. We're really introduced to what Linkin Park are all about. Power, passion and angry lyrics. A good start to the album. 8/10

2. One Step Closer - 'Shut up when I'm talking to you!'. Sorry! A really angry song, but wow it's sounds good. A nice mix of rock with a few quieter moments, a brilliant song. 9//10

3. With You - A strange little intro before the song gets going. Then it is really heavy going. But still as a good strong melody to it. More wrapping in this one, but they do it very well and it fits well with the music. 7/10

4. Points Of Authority - More angry music. Another strong song, not one of my favorites but am quite happy to listen to it. 7/10

5. Crawling - Excellent song. Think this was the first song I heard from the band and it really won me over. Great mix of slow, fast, powerful, emotion charged lyrics. 'There's something insode me that pulls beneath the surface, confussing, consuming' Some really good lyrics in the verse' before the chorus slams you back in your chair! 10/10

6. Runaway - Good song. This is one of the songs that always sticks in my head. Bit of angry shouting section near the middle, which am not to keen on. 8/10

7. By Myself - This one is just a bit to heavy for me. Heavy distorsion on the guitars make it sound really raw. 6/10

8. In The End - Class. A really emotional song of lost love. It's amazing how powerful some of these lyrics are when you listen to them. 'I tried so hard and got so far, it doesn't even matter, I had to fall to loose it all, but in the end it doesn't even matter.' Excellent! 10/10

9. Place For My Head - Another really heavy song, some screaming and real anger. Not keen on this one. 6/10

10. Forgotten - This one kicks in straingt away. More loud angry lyircs. 7/10

11. Cure For The Itch - Strange? Not really a proper song, just some talking. 5/10

12. Pushing Me Away - So can they finish on a high. Yes. I think they do. Is a really nice song to end on, some more strong lyrics and a good all round sound. 8/10

So overall a very good album. Some extremely powerful lyrics that really get you thinking. Some poorer tracks but overall a really good listen. If you have only just recently got into Linkin Park, I would suggest giving this a listen and seeing where it all started for the band!

I would give it 8/10
