Advantages: He is one tight lyricist!
Disadvantages: Not enuf of the Nas i know and love
Shame on you Nas, SHAME ON YOU!, After 2 great albums, i expected this one to be the stepingstone, I was wrong , It seemed that Nas wanted to do what Biggie did with Life after Death and thats satisfy all crowds: the backpack heads, the mtv crowd, the clubs, it seemed like Nas studied Life after the death like it was a test or somethin well unforturnely He failed misrably: From the First song(not counting the intro) New york state of mind ll, Your expecting a straight hip hop classic, hell the first 3 songs are tight,(yes including Hate me now feat Fluff Daddy) but once we get to Favor for a Favor feat Scarface, we are prepared for straight wack stuff: Ghetto Prisoners, You wont see me tonight, I Want to talk to You and the s***ty tale about Sex: Dr Knockboot, BUT BUT WAIT it gets worse! then we are blessed wit Nas kickin rhymes wit the illest emcee on the planet DMX! i was being sarcastic and this song sounds like straight stuff, next is big things which has him tryin to flow like bone thugs n harmony(only hes bone thugs with no harmony) Next is Nas is Like, the Best track on the album which has you reminencsin about the old Nas from illmatic, This is one track that i can never get tired of, but after that, he goes back to the bull with K.I.S.S.ING, WTF is he doing sampling the R.kelly beat? anyhow the song is weak as hell, Next we have Money is my bitch where he expresses his greed to money to the fullest, he even talks about marrying money!(that explains the sellout) Finally we have Undinifying Love, its a tale of how he plans on being engaged but his finacee cheats on him with another guy and he kills them both, its a well told story and a great track showing Nas great storytelin skills . Theres no denying Nas Storytelling skills nor his talent, i personally think hes a great lyricist but he never uses his talent right, Hes tryin too hard to satisfy all type of listeniers and he screwed up bad. Overall this CD is a piece of garbage, Nas could have came hella
lot better than this, maybe if he leaves Wackmasters and hook back up wit Primo, havoc, the sorely missed Large professor and Pete Rock, he will start gettin respect from real hip hop heads and not just MTV and Hot 97. outta 16 songs only 6 tracks are good, the rest are not, If your a die hard Nas fan, this is for you, if your expecting the old nasty Nas on this LP, think again because once again Escobar reigns and flashes of the old Nas can be found in only 6 tracks.
