Advantages: Great songs, Great singing, variety
Disadvantages: didnt chart, you'll wish it had
Here's a record worth listening to. Its got great songs, both tunes and lyrics and its delivered in a way that makes you feel like the band are fairly commited. I once saw them live as a support act and the effect they had on the audience was incredible. They really got the place rocking. Back to the album though. I bought this album many years ago (probably 1993 on the strength of one track, Cotton Pickers, that was part of a Setanta record sampler tape. It was the standout track on the tape but it is overshadowed on the album by at least 6 other tracks, 2 of which might be what you'd call a "classic". Endless Art and I am the Greatest are fantastic tracks, whilst youre too young, take it easy, sliping away and I am afraid are the sort of tracks that really get to you when you havent heard them for a while. The real joy of this album is its so diverse. The songs seem to belong together and share a sort of commonish sound but the tunes, melodies and riffs are wonderfully varied. It is at the end of the day, pop music but it has that sort of down to earth credibility that the guitar acts of ireland seem to pull off with ease. Ive got a friend who hates this album. He hates the way the singing can sometimes become talking (pulp or dexys used to do the same sort of thing) and it really bugs him. He likes van halen by the way. So there we have it. Pop/Rock music in its most un american form possible. What more could you ask for. I hope you try this record.

indiecater - 29.06.01 Wow this opinion was a nice surprise. I also did a review of this album, lost somewhere in the dooyoo archives. This album was one of my fav college records. The good news is that lead singer Dave Couse is back touring. We must always be grateful!! |
