I can't remember when I first saw this band live, but think it may have been when they supported Blink 182 in 2004. I didn't particularly want to go to the show (I was accompanying someone who was having something of a musical mid life crisis), but did come away with a very favourable impression of Motion City Soundtrack, a band whose enthusiasm more than makes up for any technical deficiencies in their performance. I've since seen them on at least three subsequent occasions and have greatly enjoyed their poppy keyboard/synth sounds, onstage energy and general hijinks (I didn't realise that you could do a handstand on a keyboard stand while playing it!) Having formed in 1997, 'I Am The Movie' was the first album that Motion City Soundtrack released as a band. It was released in 2002 originally, two years after the band put forward their first and only ever EP and contains eleven fine pop punk gems. Although it was originally released independently in 2002, a year later Epitaph Records got hold of it and gave it an official re-release in 2003 completely remastered. What I've always loved most about Motion City Soundtrack is the lively nature with which the music is put forward.
