Advantages: An excellent album of pop punk gems from Motion City Soundtrack.

Disadvantages: The band has not since topped the brilliance showcased here.

Having formed in 1997, 'I Am The Movie' was the first album that Motion City Soundtrack released as a band. It was released in 2002 originally, two years after the band put forward their first and only ever EP and contains eleven fine pop punk gems. Although it was originally released independently in 2002, a year later Epitaph Records got hold of it and gave it an official re-release in 2003 completely remastered.

What I've always loved most about Motion City Soundtrack is the lively nature with which the music is put forward. All five members of the band sound upbeat and energetic throughout the duration of this album and 'I Am The Movie' therefore provides for a greatly enjoyable listening experience. Never do the band disappoint and always they entertain in all eleven of these tracks. It's not perfect by any means, but it is a good solid pop punk album that I personally am a huge fan of.

'The Future Freaks Me Out' is without doubt my favourite track from this release. It was the first single the band released from this album and although at the time of its release Motion City Soundtrack were a relatively unknown and unheard of band; they soon built up quite a fan base off the back of the success of this track. It's quite amusing really given that the band have stated that this track was constructed in a mere couple of hours and very nearly didn't make it onto the album; it's definitely the best that the 'I Am The Movie' album has to offer though and personally it's probably one of my favourite tracks in the pop punk genre.

Although 'The Future Freaks Me Out' is without doubt my favourite track from this album, there are in fact a number of other tracks here that impress me hugely. This was only the bands first album but is perhaps their best, none of the eleven tracks here disappoint in the slightest and as Motion City Soundtrack progress their way through the 43 minutes of this album always I am entertained. Tracks such as 'A-OK' and 'My Favourite Accident' have an extremely long lasting impact on me, every time I hear them I smile. The lyrics are always interesting and the melodies are well constructed, the music comes together perfectly with all elements combining beautifully.

'I Am The Movie' is an excellent album from Motion City Soundtrack, I have nothing but love for this release; it's an album that holds a very special place in my personal music collection. Three albums have now been released by the band but always 'I Am The Movie' has remained to be my favourite and maybe it always will. There is no denying the fantastic talent of the brilliant American pop punk band that is Motion City Soundtrack, even here on their début album they were already showing fantastic signs of promise and in my opinion greater enthusiasm than they have ever showcased since.

Label: Epitaph

Summary: 'I Am The Movie' is a début album that I would definitely recommend listening to.
