Advantages: strong and powerful lyrics
Disadvantages: none
This "My Chemical Romance" album would probably only have been heard of by true "My Chemical Romance" fans. As it was their first realised album it has a slightly more "unpolished" tone when compared to the rest of their albums. As anyone who has listened to "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" and "The Black Parade" will know that each album has its own individual concept. "I brought you my bullet you brought me your love", is not different in that respect.
From this album you can see the true raw talent this band has from the very first song. With a strong concept of love and death this album shows us what the lead singer Gerard Way's idea of true romance is. The romance described does not only extend to humans but also to a romance with vampires. This album would be ideal for any my chemical romance fan or even anyone who is a fan of "emo" music.
Romance
Romance is the instrumental induction to this album. It sets the scene for the entire album with a gentle guitar piece that could be described as classical music.
Honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us
A great setting to the dark theme of romance of this album. This song is about a break up with lover as the lyrics "I find it hard to stay with the words you say" describe. Not the best tune of the album, but fits the lyrics well.
Vampires will never hurt you
This song takes on a new concept of vampires. A truly catchy tune, with a heavier guitar part than before, which creates a dangerous atmosphere. The song does speed up through out but then ends with a fading whisper.
Drowning lessons
Possibly one of the darkest songs on this album, drowning lesson captures the true concept of love after death. With the steady instrumental part through out and Gerard's powerful voice, this song is one of the catchiest on the album.
Our lady of sorrows
The speed of the song is the fastest of the album which sits well with the slightly slower chorus. Most of the song is sung but becomes more "screamer" than "emo" towards the end. This song has what was described by Gerard Way to be the best lyrics he has ever written "Oh how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying."
Headfirst for Halos
This song has a strangely more cheerful note, until you listen to the lyrics and realise that the words "I think I'll blow my brains against the ceiling" have just been sung. It would be easy to imagine that this song was inspired by the film "peter pan" as the words "just think happy thoughts" are often repeated.
Skylines and turnstiles
One of the most meaningful songs on the entire album. This song was written shortly after the attack on the twin towers, which was the event that started my chemical romance as a band. The words "that's if you still have one that's left, inside that cave you call a chest" stand out from the rest of the song as well as the lyrics " if the world needs something better, lets give them one more reason" A truly amazing song and one that everyone can relate to.
Early sunsets over Monroeville
One of the most "emo" songs from the album, the song starts of with a slow, relaxing instrumental part. The lyrics describe an ordinary life spend with someone you love. Half way through the song the mood changes to a more suicidal tone. The vocals change to a more "screamer" style as the lyrics become more emotional. The lyrics "should I be shocked now by the last thing you said? Before I pull this trigger.." sums up the entire song.
This is the best day ever
This song has to be the least inspirational lyrically and instrumentally. At only around two minutes long, this song seems to be more of an interlude than anything else.
Cubicles
At first the song may sound like a slower version of Honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us. However once you start listening to the lyrics you start to notice that the theme of death and a dark romance seems to have changed in this song. More of a easy listen than an emotional struggle, this song isn't of the same emotional standard set by songs such as Skylines and turnstiles.
Demolition lovers
This is the last song and longest song on the album. It starts of slow, but as the lyrics "but this time I mean it" are sung, the song is taken to a new level. The brutal guitar rift combined with the screaming vocals makes this song a truly amazing listen.
