I Care 4 U - Aaliyah

Date: 28.07.03 (808 review reads)
Rating:

Advantages: 6 unreleased tracks, greatest hits all on one album

Disadvantages: it misses out a song called Turn The Page which i really like, the booklet shoud contain more imformation about Aaliyah and maybe a tribute etc

i was as shocked at hearing about Aaliyah's death as much as anyone who is a fan of music and especially urban music. i remember getting her self titled album 'Aaliyah' one week before she tragically passed away and then hearing the news that she had died a week later on TV. her first album release after her death, 'I Care 4 U' is a mixture of Aaliyah's greatest hits and also 6 unreleased tracks. i remember being very interested in hearing the unreleased tracks as Aaliyah is my favorate female RnB artist.

ill take you through each song from I Care 4 U album.

Track 1- Back and Forth

i hadnt heard this song for a long while before i got this album and to tell the truth, it didnt real have an instand effect on me that made me want to listen to it again. it was a fairly average track. But now, after listening to the album a number of times, it has grown to be one of my favorate songs by Aaliyah. it has a party feal to it and it is produced by R Kelly which means it must be good. Aaliyahs voice is fresh and beautiful on this track- she couldnt have been older than 14 when she sang it. i would say this song had a slight pop influence on it and i can imagine it being played at school dicos etc.
Overall, i would give this track 9/10

Track 2- Are You That Somebody

i hadnt heard this track fully before i got this album, even thought i had friends telling me how good it was! i should have downloaded it but i guess i just forgot. this song had an instand effect on me and i deffinately loved this song the first time i heard it. it has That Notorious Timbaland beat which would make any song special. his beats are really unique- they are sort of out of time, yet extremely entertaining and heavy making them sound good- its almost as if you cant predict how the next beat would go. but timbalands beats along with Aaliyahs sweet vocals makes this track very special. it also has a baby sound in it quit
e often which can get quite annoying but if you uncover the meaning of the song, i think its there because she is telling him that she has a baby that might be his- im not sure but thats my gut feeling. i dont listen to this track that much anymore, i dont know why, but i dont like it as much as i used to. i think its just a phase thought and soon i will be listenin to it again.
I would give this track 8/10

Track 3- One In A Million

Although i like Aaliyah alot, i dont like this song. it is writen and produced by Missy Elliott but it is very average if not less. it has a very boring beat to it and the lyrics arnt all that good. ive never really liked this song and i cant see myself liking it in the future. but thats my opinion. some people might love this song, but i dont. however, i like to think i have a good opinion that most people agree with- i am extremely inteligent, i am extremely stong and i am very well respected in the place i live.
I would give this 4/10

Track 4- I Care 4 U

i love this song. it is probably the most relaxing song i have ever heard and Aaliyahs vocals are so sweet and perfect it aint even funny! its a mystery why this song never got released in the UK but im sure it should have done. Written and Produced by Missy Elliott again, this song is truely special and i imagine its smooth rhythm and silky vocals have touched so many urban fans.
My rating- 9/10

Track 5- More Than A Woman

This tune reached number 1 in the UK charts and one thing i wonder, would it have got to number 1 had Aaliyah not have died? im not sure. i do like the song alot, im not saying i dont. im just questioning whether people would have bought the song if she was alive. but again, produced by long time parter in music, Timbaland, this tune has a very tight beat to it and the vocals by Aaliyah arnt as smooth as on other tracks such as I Care 4 U. thats not a bad thing- she uses her voice in a strong manner
for this song. in my opinion, she has better songs. this song has pop influence to it but i am being very critical there and i must admit i did like this song so much at one point.
A rating of 9/10

Track 6- Dont Know What To Tell Ya

i love this song so much. it has a sample of an arabic song which i think make this the unique and wonderfull song that it is and altogether make Aaliyah and the producer of this song, Timbaland, a extrodinary team! Aaliyah has used her tender and more subtle vocals than she has used in songs such as More Than a Woman or Read Between The Lines on the previous album. One of my personal favorates from Aaliyah as no other artist has made a song like this. also my favorate from the unreleased singles on this album. should have done soooo much better than number 22 on the national charts. then again, this is the british public and The Cheacky Girls got to number 2 when this song was out so its hard to take the UK charts seriously!?!

My Rating, 10/10

Track 7- Try Again

This is my favorate song by Aaliyah and althogether my favorate EVER song. i just love the whole edgeyness of it and its up tempo beat. her vocals are also spot on and again, she has used her soft voice very well. A Timbaland beat, as ever, gives it a unique sense and i feel this tune diserved number 1 rather than number 5 in the UK charts. The british charts are crap though but in a America, where it counts, this reached number 1. The video to this is also amazing with a great dance routine. the video earned best female video at the mtv awards. im sure if Aaliyah was still here there would have been many more songs like this being made by her. As i say, its my personal favorate.

A Total of 10/10

Track 8- All I Need

I like this song alot. Although it doesnt have the notorious timbaland beat to it, it has a bright feel to the tune. i dunno really, its just one of those songs that leave you with a smile on
your face after youve listened to it. Aaliyah sticks to a low key in her vocals which shows how she can use her voice to a great extent. an overall good tune.

Its gettin 7/10

Track 9- Miss You

The first single to be released from this album and it got to number 1 in the USA. wasnt released in UK for some very strange reason because i can guarentee it would have got into the top 5. This song grew on me so much becuase it didnt hit me as a smash hit when i first listened to it but the more times i listen to it the more times i am lovin it! it makes you pause for thought every time you listen to this song. its a beautiful song.

A rating of 8/10

Track 10- Dont Worry

I have the feeling that the producing work has been done after the death of Aaliyah, i dont know why, it just doesnt seem to click with her vocals. but this song, like Miss You, has grown on me and its beat is very unique and entertaining. Again, Aaliyah has stuck to a low key with regards to her vocals. i like this song, but its nothing special.

A Rating of 6/10

Track 11- Come Over

This is due to be released soon off this album and i wonder why because, although it is growning on me now, i do think that All I Need and Dont Worry are better tunes. it has a slow tempo to it, fairly relaxing. Its ok.

A Rating of 5/10

Track 12- Erica Kane

This song is very good in my opinion. although the chorus is very repetitive i think the actual verses are very good. with most of the unreleased tracks from this album, this song is a grower. Not as good as Miss You or Dont Know What To Tell Ya but it is good to listen to when you just want to chill out and listen to the lyrics and feel some music.
A Fairly mediocre song.

A Rating of 6/10

Track 13- At Your Best (You Are Love)

This song is very good to lie down to and just listen and relax to. i like it, although i havnt listened to it i
n a couple of months. i might listen to it tonight actually come to think of it! Her voice in this song is soo gentle and smooth. she recorded this song when she was working with R Kelly so she would have been very young. i do prefer her upbeat songs however, but i do have different moods and there is a time when i would prefer to chill to these kinda songs

A Rating of 7/10

Track 14- Gotta Give It Up (Remix)

i have all Aaliyahs albums and this song on her first album is not as good as the remixed version on this album. i like this more because the beat is more upbeat. its a good tune but i dont listen to it that much cos it doesnt do it fot me that much.

A Rating of 6/10

Track 15- Rock The Boat

ive never really loved this song and i cant understand why some people say its her best ever song. as i said earlier, i prefer the more upbeat songs. although this songs beat actually makes you feel as if your on a boat. i do listen to it when im chillin out or somethin, but i wont say to myself 'oh i wanna listen to Rock The Boat now'. u know what im sayin. however, i admire its originality alot and its a great track. to think, if this song hadnt have been wrote she would still have been alive. . . . . . what can we do.

Ill give it a 7/10

Track 16- We Need A Resolution

i love this song so much. its arguably Timbalands best production work. the beat is just incredible and Aaliyahs vocals are strong yet so sweet. im lovin it. im gettin a bone on just talking about it lol! only kiddin LMAO! Timbalands little rap at the end is also pretty good. but the beat is just the best thing from this song- incredible. its so stupid that it didnt get higher than number 20 in this crappy english chart ish!
this is deffinately gettin 10/10

A Smashing album.
