      a must for folk fans

How I came across this CD:
One day my boyfriend asked me if Id like to come to Willy Masons concert. "To who?" I had no idea. "Ill give you some songs to listen - then you tell me if you like it". Said and done.
And how could I not like Willy Mason? After listening to his first album "Where the Humans Eat" I was really curious to hear more. So we went to the "If The Ocean Gets Rough" tour and had a great evening!

      About Willy Mason:
Willy Mason (born 21 November 1984) is an American singer-songwriter. He is the son of Jemima James and Michael Mason, both folk singers who - according to Willy - have influenced his music. He is a direct descendant of the 19th century philosopher William James, the brother of novelist Henry James.
In the summer months of 2004 Willy and his brother Sam recorded the debut album Where the Humans Eat. The album was released on Conor Obersts Team Love label in the USA in October 2004, and by Virgin Records in the UK in February 2005. Where the Humans Eat and its singles ("Oxygen" and "So Long"), charted in the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart in 2005.
In the spring of 2006, they began touring the US and Europe, along with other musicians. So far this year he has supported Beth Orton, KT Tunstall, Radiohead, and Sondre Lerche.
Willy released his second album, If the Ocean Gets Rough, in March 2007.

      About this CD:

      1. Gotta Keep Walking
      2. The World That I Wanted
      3. We Can Be Strong
      4. Save Myself
      5. I Cant Sleep
      6. Riptide
      7. When the River Moves On
      8. If the Ocean Gets Rough
      9. Simple Town
      10. The End of the Race
      11. When the Leaves Have Fallen

These folk songs are mainly slow, melancholic and pretty serious. The music reminds me of "Nick Cave and The Backseeds", even Willys voice is similar to Nick Caves.
My favourite tracks are "we can be strong", "Save myself" and "Simple Town".

      About the concert:
It was great seeing him on stage. He didnt do a big show but I think his music is convincing enough ;) Afterwards we got to talk to him for a while. Good to see hes just a nice guy, very down to earth.

      My rating:
If you like folk or enjoy listening to Nick Cave for example, you should definitely check out Willy Masons music!
Give it a go on Masons Myspace!
