Spanish guitars, whale noises and other now-cliched progressive house techniques somehow meld together with more standard dance music sounds like the Roland 303 (used in a unique way here)to create soundscape which is danceable enough to stand up in the more open-minded clubs. The second side of the tape is made up of a 40 minute DJ mix from Sasha. As you'd expect from...more

Premium Review Ima - BT: Moving and beautiful (257 words)

Rating:

I hadn't listened to this album for a couple of years, but listening to it recently was like slipping back into something warm and comfortable. The whole thing stands up as good today as it ever has, and it almost certainly not only BT's best album, but also Sasha's as well (in my opinion, it's a better album than any of the Northern Exposure series, sorry Sasha fans). I have the album on cassette, so its that format I'll concentrate on, sorry if the CD version is different. sorry, couldn't think of a better title for this. BT- BIG TUNES!!! (probably would have been better, huh?) Anyway, I can track down certain moments in my life with dance music over the years. The first time I heard Sasha, the first time I heard the first Renaissance compilation, a lot more, then the first time I stuck IMA on in my headphones. You have to remember that at this point I was still finding my musical feet when it came to dance music. Didn't find them with this album, my head (and feet) ended up in the clouds!! Ok, bby todays standards of what makes dance music good, this isn't what floats everyone's boat, but it was, ...  Read the complete review

For those who enjoy to be taken out of themselves and trasported to another world, IMA is the album you need. BT's latest album moved away from the legendary old style, which is such a shame. The best track on this album is Voyage of IMA with Sasha, its a very long track, but has been known to give people ( or rather one friend of mine) an out of body experience. Perfect as a hangover cure, background music for a night in, or music to session to. Highly recommended. ...  Read the complete review

Sons Of Northern Darkness - Immortal
Strong grasp of tempo changes, and powerful drums from Horgh. Too slow and dull on occasion, and based largely in thrash.

Mind Transplant - Alphonse Mouzon
Some great musicianship Never really lets go

Omnio - In The Woods
Well-executed and well-sequenced progressive doom metal. Over-ambitious sections are less impressive.

Panopticon - Isis
Perfectly paced. Not one bad moment. Vocals may prove offputting to some. Not one for happy moods.

Turbo - Judas Priest
Great vocals, impressive guitar work and some effective use of synthesisers. Too many bland and occasionally annoying pop-rock songs.

Unleashed In The East - Judas Priest
Impressive performance of many early Judas Priest classics. Original release is lacking in quantity, and some favourites are always going to be missing.

Catalyst - New Found Glory
A terrific album of bouncy pop punk fun. If you dislike nasal vocal performances then you probably won't like this.

World Party - Goodie Mob
A few bangers Inconsistent

It's A Bit Complicated - Art Brut
Fantastic sounds, and poetic lyrics Has a few songs that let the album down
