Advantages: Great Songs

Disadvantages: Not the best

All the people who know me from Ciao, know that Eva Cassidy is one of, if not the best, artist of all time, IMHO!

This was my very first CD in my Eva collection and I loved it, but then realised there were others out there that took the places above this one. There are still some amazing songs, such as John Lennon's 'Imagine' and 'Tennessee Waltz’, which brings tears to your eyes because of the emotion which Eva brings to each and every one of her songs.

Her untimely death has affected many people and more and more are learning of her life story through the inlays of her CDs.

Released in 2002, this CD managed to reach No1 in the charts after Songbird and was followed by American Tune, the most recent release.

The lively release of Fever (violin played by her brother, Dan) makes a welcome addition to the collection. Danny Boy is the most wonderful cover sung by Eva and this CD will be continued to be listened to time and time again. Still Not Ready and I Can Only Be Me will bring such motion to your heart that all these songs will always be remembered.

Track listing:

1. It Doesn’t Matter Anymore
2. Fever
3. Who Knows Where The Time Goes
4. You’ve Changed
5. Imagine
6. Still Not Ready
7. Early Morning Rain
8. Tennessee Waltz
9. I can Only Be Me
10. Danny Boy

Information on tracks:

1. Written by Paul Anka. Opening track on the album was recorded at Pearls restaurant in Annapolis. Buddy Holly has recorded this song but Eva is thought to have known it from the Linda Ronstadt album.

2. This version is very different from that on the Other Side album. Eva’s brother Dan plays fiddle on the track and is more like the original R&B version from 1956 Little Willie John than the Peggy Lee pop cover.

3. This song was taped at the Maryland Inn on the same night as two of the songs from Time After Time. Eva was not kn
own as being a Sandy Danny fan but this song was found on a tape with Eva’s handwriting.

4. This song is also found on the album The Other Side although this is a solo version. It was a standard in Eva’s repertoire with the band and she sang it at the Blue’s Alley the same night as the Live album was recorded.

5. The title song of the album was made famous by John Lennon. Eva wanted to make a demo tape for the people who booked the clubs.

6. This is the only unknown song on the album. It was written by Chris Izzy and Leo LaSota and recorded as a demo in 1987. This song has a lot of pathos and feeling in it.

7. Eva often performed this song on her solo engagements. It was taped at Pearls on a different night. The song was written by Gordon Lightfoot.

8. This song is another studio demo like Imagine. Also like Early Morning Rain, Eva often performed it live.

9. This is a Stevie Wonder song. This was one of Eva’s earlier recordings that Eva made with Chris Biondo. Stevie was one of Eva’s Idols. She only ever recorded 2 of his songs and wanted to become one of his backing singers!!

10. Finally this song has to be the best of the whole album. This version is unlike any of the previous covers that anyone has made. A wonderful song that will turn you into jelly!!

It has been said that there will only be a further 2 Eva Cassidy album releases in the future so be sure to have this one in your collection! Although this is not my favourite, I will still keep it somewhere in my listening collection. Some tunes still blow you away and bring tears to your eyes.
