Immaculate - containing no flaw or error

Could this have been what Madonna meant when she titled her album The Immaculate Collection? Or could it have been a play on words and bears meaning to the Immaculate Conception following her Catholic roots?

Who knows, but all I know is that this album is great. It's Madonna when, in my opinion, Madonna was great. It's when her songs had a tune and a rhythm, beat and good lyrics, not like some of her recent stuff that has included a lot of disco and techno beats and weird leotard wearing videos. What I love about this album is that you can totally sing along to it as every song is a classic and familiar and a really good tune. Madonna was born in American on the 16th August 1958 and has had a career basically spanning nearly 30 years. It's been a career that has courted controversy, from battles with the Catholic Church to her explicit sexual themes and her interesting love life.

The Immaculate Collection is the first greatest hits compilation album by Madonna and was released on November 13, 1990. It contains newly remixed versions of her greatest hits from 1983 to 1990, as well as two new tracks "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me". The album includes eight of her twelve U.S. number one singles.

The album itself is very easy to spot. The cover is a light blue, almost a Tiffany blue colour with a big M in the middle and the Immaculate Collection written across it. According to an article I read the album is the best selling compilation ever released by a female artist with over 22 million copies sold worldwide. I always find that this is an album that everybody tends to have in their CD collection, it's like an album that you must own because it is so famous.

The songs on the album are as follows:

1. Holiday
2. Lucky Star
3. Borderline
4. Like a Virgin
5. Material Girl
6. Crazy for you
7. Into the Grove
8. Live to Tell
9. Papa Don't Preach
10. Open Your Heart
11. La Isla Bonita
12. Like a Prayer
13. Express Yourself
14. Cherish
15. Vogue
16. Justify My Love
17. Rescue Me

As this is a compilation album most of the songs can be found on a variety of her other albums including Madonna, her debut album, Like a Virgin, True Blue and I'm Breathless.

Crazy for you is probably my favourite song on this album. It was recorded for the 1985 film Vision Quest. It's a slow song and the words are really lovely. In fact, every song on this album brings back good memories for me and I think that is what you want from a album, to take you back to when the songs were released and make you remember what you were doing when you heard the songs. Lucky Star reminds me of the local Chinese restaurant where I used to live at University as that was the name of it. Borderline was a country/Western bar that was near me where I lived in America, Vogue reminds me of high school and dancing to it at the Disco. So all in all a great album that brings back good memories!
