say in the publicity video anyway - I often suspect it s a last ditch attempt to shift units as each release meets with ever diminishing returns. Australian singer-songwriter Tina Arena has had a patchy international singing career. She has a lovely, clear voice - I like how she doesn t have to resort to vocal acrobatics to prove her point - but has had few big hits since she had her first foray into the UK charts with "Chains" back in 1994. She failed to move me until she released "Aller Plus Haut" in France back in 1999 - I was spending a lot of time in Brussels at the time and got to know the song from radio and TV airplay there. place on an early Celine Dion album. This is the most instantly poppy track on the album. Greatest Gift is a great summer driving track with Tina Arena opening the track with "fly away with my beating heart". Its not subtle and you can imagine exactly what you get from the title. A great gospelly backing vocal in the chorus makes it less ordinary and pedestrian. Album highlight comes in at track 8 with the formidable Thats The Way A Woman Feels. Tina s voice is at its very best on this upbeat classic. References to the rain and dead dreams dont deviate from the fact that this is pop perfection made better by a singer with a great grasp of her own ...
