The chorus' are huge, their sunkissed allure might not be immediately obvious but as soon as their warm glow works its way into your internals you will feel intoxicated. 'Richard 111' fires the party into the stratosphere as the flaming guitar licks bore into Coombes' elegantly wasted vocals that almost choke on their...more

Premium Review In It For The Money - Supergrass: The Keen Keen Class Of Coombes (798 words)
by - written on 29/07/01 (Very useful, 74 readings)
Rating:

Gaz Coombes secret pop history extends back to the early nineties when he and fellow 'grass head Danny Goffey were members of little known band the Jennifers. Their main contribution to the annals of pop history came in the form of a single called 'Just Got Back Today'. It expelled warm acoustic nuances and boasted a soaraway chorus that belied the fact that Gaz was only 14 when he wrote it. It's strange when you compare the output from those formative years with Supergrass' pot bellied honey monster hits like 'Mansize Rooster' and 'Alright'. Here was a teenage band playing it straight and getting all the laughs. With the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review I should Coco pt2? (182 words)

The grass took a different approach to this album. You'll notice that the music jumps from fast paced rock style in Richard III to the slow 'Late in the Day'. Even though there appears to be no strict theme to this album, it all seems to fit together surprisingly well. Each song compliments the next. It may not have the raw enthusiasm of 'I should Coco', but where it lacks in that field, it makes up for it in originality. A lot of the songs have taken a more spiritual turn which makes this album a whole mixture of styles. I personally think this is a great album to listen to. Because of the different styles there's no real way to class it. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review In It For The Money - Supergrass: The Grass is Always Greener (275 words)
by - written on 16/05/01 (Useful, 25 readings)
Rating:

As the first bars of 'In It For The Money' fade in you know you're listening to a magnificent album. This, the first track from brilliantly titled the album of the same name, is as assured an opener as you'll ever hear. Cutting out at the height of a crescendo at just the right moment to suprise the listener, it immediately moves on to 'Richard III' the number one single, with its heavy guitars and boisterous vocals. 'Tonight' almost disarms you with a guitar hook that remains wholly unpredictable for the first few listens. The thumping bass of 'G-Song', the excitement of 'Sun Hits The Sky', emotional lows of 'It's ...  Read the complete review

Another great album. Probably my favorite cd. Supergrass are right up there with my other favorite band, the Beatles. Supergrass knows how to make very good music and it's a shame they aren't as well known in America. Keep the hits coming please. The bonus cd is splendid as well and I love I Should Coco too. Supergrass are the best band of the 90s. My favorite songs on the album are Late in the Day, Sun Hits the Sky, RichardIII and Hollow Little Reign, and Odd? and Melanie Davis, even though the whole album is superb and mind-blowing. If you dont already own this album, buy it today. Bill Robinson Genius at Work ...  Read the complete review
