When a band promises a return to form after veering a little off course, it's often a cause for excitement and perhaps inevitable disappointment, as aptly demonstrated by Dave Mustaine's apparent resurgence in anger over the United States politics leading to Megadeth's ultimately unspectacular 'United Abominations.' A different take on death metal, from the genre's classic period. Thrash sections don't incorporate as well, and poor production is sometimes an issue.

As unashamedly violent as black metal can get. Doesn't encourage newcomers.

Fantastic Songs which will ammuse you for hours ....

Tobias Sammet still has a great voice, and fans of power ballads will likely find something to enjoy Lack of power metal, and what is present isn't very good.

An excellent rock album, fantastic from start to finish. Some may be put off by the musical change in direction that Avenged Sevenfold took here.
