Advantages: good voice, bout 2 good songs

Disadvantages: some terrible songs, very samey

I'll be the first to admit that I loved Jessica's last album. It was kind of a half way house between Britney and Destiny's Child and was one that I never got sick of. So I got this one hoping for more of the same.
I was very disappointed to discover that it was in fact a giant pile of pants. Its dull, dreary and almost every single song sounds the same. If this is supposed to be a sign of her growing up then i wish to god she'd stop.
Both her and mandy moore seem to be going for 'credibility' at the moment seeing as they got in on the game a little late and failed to come close to the succes of Britney or Christina.
I have also changed my opinion of her personality wise aswell. Having watched the Newlyweds she has started to really irritate me. All the girl does is whinge and complain.

1. Sweetest Sin
I do actually quite like this one. It starts off quiet with just a piano and then Jess comes in all quiet and breathy - I think its supposed to be sexy. Its not really. It builds up towards the end of the song and then ends quietly. She doesnt really get to sing much as its continues down the 'sexy' road. When I was watching Newlyweds it shwoed her recording this with Nick helping her with all the ad libs. None of them are on this tho, and they maybe would have made it better.

2. With You
This was her second US release and I think its set for release over here too. Its one of the better songs on the album and one of the few up-tempo ones. She seems to have gone for more subtle songs on this album as so far she hasnt really let rip. This one is about how Jess feels completely comfortable with her guy - Im guessing Nick and tells how she's a 'southern girl with her levis on and her open heart'.

3. My Way Home
This one is weird and I hate it. Think its supposed to be original and different. Well it succeded in that but its also horrendous. Its sounds really out of tune and off
key. Make it stop!

4. I Have Loved You
This sounds like it should be on a Leann Rimes album. 'If I never see you face, if wings take you away from me'. What? Like a giant pair of wings are just gonna sweep down and carry him off. I'd like to see that. Its not that bad a tune, just really cheesy and corny lyrics that make you wanna gag.

5. Forbidden Fruit
This is another up-beat one and another one that I hate. It has no tune, goes nowhere and isnt particularly flattering on her voice.

6. Everyday See You, 7. Underneath, 8. You Don't Have to Let Go
I've lumped these three together bacause they're all the same song. No really. They all sound identical. You can just listen to this bit of the album and have no clue which one you're listening to. And they're not even good. They're BORING in every sense of the word. I think the idea is heartfelt love songs. If someone sang this to me I'd be sick and then probably drown in my own vomit because I'd have fallen asleep.

9. Loving You
This ones got more of an edge to it. Unfotunately its a crap edge. She's trying to go for a more urban sound and its not working for her.

10. In This Skin
This one starts out very promisingly. Its about how she's always in the public eye and being told she's not good enough, or thin enough to be a role model. I really like it up until the middle of the second verse where it goes weird, electronic and shouty.

11. Be
In this one Jess tells us how she sees her and her beau 'moving mountains'. Again something I'd really like to see. The songs nothing special. Sounds samey to a lot of other songs.

So in short, this album is pretty bad which is a shame because she's got a decent voice.

Good Review. She's got a new xmas album coming out soon called ' re-joycing' or something like that dedicated to her grandmother Joyce. I agree that the album is quite 'samey' as u put it and Lol at the wings coming to carry Nick away. I think Jess is from a different planet, she's n0t in touch with what teenagers/most ppl want to listen too. I Think bcos she grew up listening to Mariah Carey/Whitney ouston etc and bcos they sang about lve and love lost and heartbreak ( isn't that the name of most of their songs? ) She thinks or she wants to re-create that sound and those kind of lyrics in her muic, but I think most ppl have gone past listening to soppy crap. ' With you '[ was her once chance of having a good pop song, and I think its a great song, but the rest are drivle. Ashlee Simpson on the other hand its really good, im really enjoying her album.
