1993 saw the heavily-anticipated release of Nirvana's follow-up to the ground-breaking success that was 'Nevermind' - an album that shaped a generation. But if that was the partying and celebration of 'grunge' - 'In Utero' was the emotional morning after, complete with bitter and breathetaking music. Opening track 'Serve The Servents' starts with the apt opening line - 'Teenage angst has paid off well, but now I'm bored and old' - instantly indicating Kurt Cobain's theory that Nevermind is long gone in Nirvana's timeline, and left instead is the more intelligent, moody, emotional masterpiece of this album. 'Scentless Apprentice' kicks off with one ... Read the complete review

I thought it was about time I wrote an epinion of Nirvana, as it one of my favourite bands, but Kurt Cobain (King of Grunge) along with Krist and Dave, truly demonstrate what good music is all about. It is by far, I think their best album and I will go through each song to demonstrate what a magnificent album it really is. --------------------------------------- 'SERVE THE SERVANTS' - commences the album with basically an anthem all about the woes of life in which everyone can relate too. It is a great opener, in which it leaves other songs to enter, without being type casted as a certain type of grunge. The music is brilliant with ... Read the complete review

In Utero had the working title: I Hate Myself And I Want to Die. Released - September 21st 1993! ------------------------------------------------------------------- In Utero starts off with Serve The Servants. This is a average paced song with some super guitaring. Serve The Servants is not "drony and miserable" and is very fresh - I am sure that this song having been released today would make it to no. 1 on Sunday! It has a chorus that finds a slot in your memory - Serve the servants - Oh no Serve the servants - Oh no Serve the servants - Oh no Serve the servants - Oh no Serve the servants - That legendary divorce ... Nirvana's final studio album, In Utero, was what many believed to be Kurt's subliminal suicide note (that's if you think it was suicide). I can see why many people think this as it is a substantial return to Nirvana's raw style. All songs are fuelled by brilliant grunge/pop rhythms with Kurt screeching mesmerisingly angst-filled lyrics over the top. Serve the Servents is a brilliant opening track, and is a semi-autobiographical account of Kurt's relationship with his parents. Scentless Apprentice is a haunting grunge classic based on a book named Perfume, and then Heart Shaped Box (the most favourite song on the album) is a disturbing yet moving love song. ... Over the last decade, there have perhaps been more headlines emerging from the music business than any other. In the celebrity-obsessed society that we unfortunately now live in, the tabloid's flavour of the month and their every move is, ninety-nine times out of one hundred, more likely to grace the front pages than the continuing conflicts in Eastern Europe or a murder, minor tragedy or even the latest political scandal. Yet whether it be Liz Hurley, Chris Evans or Geri Halliwell, you can all but be assured that their drunken outbursts, revealing outfits (thankfully not in the case of Chris Evans) or unfounded rumours about their latest romance will invariably ...
