Inflikted is Max and Igor Cavalera's first collaboration since 1996's Roots (which saw Max leaving the legendary Sepultura and the brothers embroiled in a 12 year feud, during which they did not speak a single word to each other). Needless to say, expectations are high for this album. The good news is that, for hard-core metalheads, the Conspiracy do not disappoint. Joined by Gojira bassist Joe Duplantier and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo, vocalist/guitarist Max and (undisputedly one of the finest drummers around) Igor tear through 11 tracks of unbridled, unrelenting, face shredding brutality. Old-school Sepultura fans will either be delighted or disappointed by this recent reunion between the Cavalera brothers, as it effectively sounds just like that other band's material pre-'Roots,' which I suppose was the general idea all along (and will please those fans who are of the opinion that bands' material should never be allowed to vary). It was often suggested they would never re-unite but many people hoped! I think that people got exactly what they wanted as well, Inflikted doesn't really have a new twist on it at all, in fact you might as well be unaware that either artist had tried anything different over the last decade or so. This was actually a pleasant surprise for me, I thought it would be different in some way but this album sounds like early Sepultura in their prime and as I wasn't too keen on the later sounds nor ... The Cavalera name is close to legendary in the metal world with Max Cavalera being quoted as "the Bob Marley of Metal" and both the brothers success from the legendary heavy metal band 'Sepultura', so there were high expectations for their Album. Joined by the 'Soulfly' guitarist Mark Rizzo and of 'Gorjila' Bassist Joe Duplantier, Igor and Max Cavalera bring together a new sound unique to Cavalera Conspiracy and Inflikted. Heavy, Entertaining and containing elements of Sepultura's earlier sound, mixed with the Legendary vocals styles of Max make this a great album for past fans of Sepultura and Soulfly, but even makes a great album to start ...
