Advantages: original sounds, uplifting

Disadvantages: a few weak songs

The kooks, a four piece band from Brighton, recently released their debut album, Inside in/Inside out which hit number 8 on the album chart in it’s first week of release.
It is a shame that they brought out their album on the same day as the overly hyped Arctic Monkeys as this shadowed their under appreciated musical talent. In my opinion it beats the Arctic Monkeys album hands down and deserves much more attention.

The album opens with a short acoustic song “Seaside” that shows a fragile side to singer Luke Pritchard as this song is possibly referring to a past experience in his hometown.
“See The World” then explodes with screaming guitars and develops into an energetic and outstanding track. This is then followed by the sweet melody of “Sofa Song” with a catchy chorus and great riffs.

The next track is the debut single from last summer “Eddie’s Gun” which features an original and quirky sound, closely followed by their most recent release “You Don’t Love Me”, a fast paced, lively track that stands out in the middle of the album. “She Moves In Her Own Way” is a catchy, breezy acoustic song comparable to some of the best work of The Coral.

Showing their confidence to broaden their sound, hints of ska are to be found in “Match Box” and “Time Awaits”. The Kooks also show a darker side in the slow but powerful “I Want You Back”. It starts off gloomy but soon bursts into a striking and emotional track that shows off their musical capabilities. The only disappointing track is “Got No Love”, a lifeless and intentionally slow song that concludes the album on a low note but without spoiling an excellent debut album.

With enough impressive songs on their album, The Kooks can expect to progress a lot further in their musical career and release many more incredible singles before a second album appears

In conclusion The Kooks are a great band from Brighton of whom we can expect great things from in the future.

Summary: absolute top notch band

The Kooks are an amazing band and you've pretty much summed the album up. "Do You Want To Go To The Seaside Da Dum Dee Dum" :)
