Advantages: Upbeat, tuneful rough garage hippie sound. Some strong songs on the album.

Disadvantages: They arent really the sort of band that make massive musical waves, although they are charming.

The Kooks are Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Max Rafferty (bass), and Paul Garred (drums). The band are named after a David Bowie song, but this doesnt at all reflect their style. The band met while at Brighton Music College.

Essentially they are a really low budget garage rock band, although they do sound rough around the edges, I believe this gives them their charm. Their influences are The Police, The Strokes and strangely The Everly Brothers. Again, these influences dont really help describe the bands innocent sound.

This album is their debit released in 2006 and contains Top 20 hit 'You Dont Love Me' and 'She Moves In Her Own Way' . And acclaim for tracks on this album doesnt end there: 'Naive' shot to number 5 by the spring of that year!

Musically their sound is percussionistic, melodic and upbeat. I think they are like a really good university union band that have a really mellow hippie vibe about their songs (especially in 'She Moves In Her Way'). Vocally and lyrically the band are not strong but by no means bad and in some songs the vocals do really stand out: like in 'Matchbox'.

Although as stated above, this band do have a certain rough charm about their music I dont think that this gives them enough appeal to stand out massively from their piers.

Summary: Something really sweet about the quality of their music, although they dont rock my world.
