Advantages: some great songs

Disadvantages: not as good as dookie

Insomniac was the fourth studio album from green day. The album was a tad bit heavier than the dookie album before it and perhaps this was why it didn't achieve the commercial success that dookie did. However I think fans of green day before, and new fans hearing dookie was happy with the release of insomniac.

The album starts with armatage shanks which kicks the album off well, a song carried through by a wicked bass line and very loud drums, the vocals and the song itself isn't very hard but the instruments are and this is a great rocking song to start the album off.

Track number 10 is one of my favourites off the album , brain stew, despite the guitar power chords being some of the easiest iv ever seen. it's a very simple song, with very simple instruments, usually this is something that I hate about song and usually it just doesn't work but in this case it totally does, it's a great track and I'm still un sure why.

Jaded has to be my absolute out right favourite of the album though just because of its sheer pace, one of the fastest songs iv heard green day do and it must be the fastest song off the album too. The guitar is the opposite to brain stew, fast and complex and as are the drums and bass but this also works as a song and is great to really bang your head to.

Walking contradicition is the last song off the album, it sounds a little familiar to a certain bad religion song in the opening but when it gets going its totally different so ill let them off for that. it's a fast song but the lyrics and singing much more relaxed than a lot of the others.

Insomniac was another great album from green day, it certainly wasn't quite as good as dookie, but it did contain some more great songs by the band and it showed they can change their style slightly, offer their fans something different and still be a great band with great songs.

Summary: not as good as dookie but still a wicked album
