Advantages: Excellent variation, some classic tunes
Disadvantages: Screamy vocals a bit ott
Ire Works, the 3rd album by matchore band Dillinger Escape Plan was released in November 2007 and soon gathered critical acclaim and hit the top end of various Best of 2007 lists. If you are into mathcore or even any other brand of extreme metal or even hardcore, it's likely this album will appeal. With it's complex rythms and quick short-lasting changes in mood.
The track 82588 is unofficially said to to be taken from the date of Metallica's 4th release, unfortunately the track is a bit of a let down though, particularly when compared to the intense track "Fix Your Face" or the enjoyable rock n roll/punk number "Milk Lizard" - my personal favourite and possibly the most approachable on the album, it's a true gem with lots of different styles of riffs (jazz, metal, rock) and vocals which change in style to match.
I'm not a huge fan of the Mathcore genre but Dillinger Escape Plan easily lead it and this album along with their Mike Patton fronted Irony is a Dead Scene are definitely their best, with this one leading the way. The variation and complexity album is awesome, some will be put off by the screamy vocals though.
There is a hidden message in the cover booklet, which despite being tricky to decode, can easily be googled fortunately!
1. "Fix Your Face" - 2:41
2. "Lurch" - 2:03
3. "Black Bubblegum" - 4:04
4. "Sick on Sunday" - 2:10
5. "When Acting as a Particle" - 1:23
6. "Nong Eye Gong" - 1:16
7. "When Acting as a Wave" - 1:33
8. "82588" - 1:56
9. "Milk Lizard" - 3:55
10. "Party Smasher" - 1:56
11. "Dead as History" - 5:29
12. "Horse Hunter" - 3:11
13. "Mouth of Ghosts" - 6:49
Summary: Mathcore at its best

- 16/02/09 I really like this album, although Dillinger generally are a bit heavier than I usually like. |
